Your landlord is not a creditor, and is not involved or informed of your bankrupsy.

When you submit your bankruptcy petition, you have to include the name and address of your landlord. The Official Receiver will write to him as a matter of course, whether you owe him rent arrears or not. So he will know about your petition, but he/she may not have included any clause in your tenancy agreement which says you have to leave in the case of bankruptcy. If you are a good tenant and have never fallen behind in your rent, why would the landlord put himself to the expense of finding and vetting another tenant ? Also, if you are a tenant of a social landlord and or a housing association, they are more likely to allow you to continue your tenancy.

as long as your are up to date with the rent , you have not breached the lease contract

no he can't

Not if your up to date with your rent, No.

Your landlord can end your tenancy (once your out of your fixed period) for any reason he chooses, giving you 2 months notice. He does not have to give you a reason.
If you continue to pay your rent, he will be happy.

Johnny
None of the above can say no for definite.

There are tenancy agreements with bankruptcy clauses, so you should check your agreement.

Its quite likely your landlord will find out. Bankruptcy is a matter of public record - its in the local paper - even if the OR chooses not to write to him.

But other than that why would a landlord worry, its better to have a debt free tenant than one being harassed by creditors.

no you are going to be fine

No, your landlord wouldn't even know you declared bankruptcy unless you told him.

No, as long as you pay your rent he doesnt need to know about your personal financial problems.

Wouldn't think so unless you name your landlord as a party to the bankruptcy, or unless your lease has any provisions about this.

Ms Minger
Absolutely not.

URBAN SOUL
no! because he's not a creditor!

Kev
no as long as you keep up with rent and no problems in ya current adress then you will have no problems at all as long as you have not breached your tenancy then he has no legal reason or right to evict you hope this helps

no that would be a lawsuite for him!

Max
Im sure your landlord can probably end it whenever he wants, (im not sure though) but If you've paid your rent then I dont think he has any reason to end your tenancy.
