It sounds like you understand it, at the end of the 2 years you have to pay for rest of the house, or forfeit what you already paid to the owners. Most of the time the renters end up forfeiting. But, really it is your choice, the ball is in your court. |

well that's up to the actual owner (since you aren't the owner until you have paid full price). They can opt to to do a Land Contract at that time or extend your lease. However, if they decided not to do either of those two after your current term is up, then yes, if you wanted to buy it, you would have to come up with enough money to purchase the home outright from the current owner. |

First off, rent-to-own homes are HORRIBLE ideas. Those are just the latest scheme to rip people off who have no business being in a house to begin with. A few years ago it was interest only loans, liar loans, and 100% financing loans, and now this is the latest scheme. Second, the details of purchasing the house will depend on YOUR contract with the owner. There is no one single way these schemes are designed. |

each state might be different, but i know i pa. a person rented to own, paid double rent each month for two years. when she went to get a mortgage, she didn't qualify. the landlord would not renew another lease, and terms of rent to own here is if you can't swing the mortgage you lose the money the landlord was holding. so she really got royally screwed. |
