steven w | If i sign for a car, how long have i got to change my mind and get my deposit back ( if any) .signed yesterday |

My mother bought a car and after getting home decided that the payments were too high. The salesman rushed her into signing for this car and when she thought it over and tried to return it, that SAME day. She was told that there is no buyers remorse period, and once you drive the car of the lot it becomes a USED car and can not be resold as a new car, so they can not take it back.
We doubt this guy, so we call around to other dealerships and spoke to the higher ups, managers and owners. We were told the same thing. One guy was really nice and explained the whole thing, about how these dealers don't explain this to buyers and that buyers remorse does not apply in our state.
I have heard from others that it varies by state but when I check on the internet, it seems like most states does not have this buyers remorse for new care dealerships. Some of the used car dealer will allow a grace period as a part of their sales pitch but that goes company to company.
My mother was adviced to just keep the car for 6 months and pay on time each month, after that period she can trade it for something that she can afford. But then again she will be upside down and end up having to pay for a longer period.
My advice is to check around your state, call other dealerships and the business bureau, but be prepared to keep the car at least for 6 months. |

I find it's an absolute nightmare trying to get your money back once the deposit has been paid.. they will try and get you to have another of their cars or just make it really awkward for you.. I had this with a company when the finance deal wasn't working out at what they quoted..
Best of luck with it.. |

If you didn't take the car off the lot, you can get your money back by cancelling the contract immediately as long as you have not signed a finance agreement. Don't discuss it with them and don't take no for an answer. You can't get financing, lost your job, changed your mind, etc and that's it, period.
If you took the car off the lot or signed a finance agreement, 99.9% of the time you are stuck.
Check your states law and read your contract. The law for your states should be on the attorney generals web page. |

Varies by state, but generally there's no "buyer's remorse" period. It's your car. |

It is unlikely that you get back your deposit. But then it depends much on what is stated on the terms and conditions that you had signed. |

Here is UK Law:
Did you go to their shop. If you did, there is no "cooling-off" period. Once you have signed the agreement and paid the deposit, you have entered into a legal binding contract that says you will buy the car.
The seller (Car company) has no legal obligation to let you change your mind, but there may be a clause in the agreement with regards to getting out of it.
If you have changed your mind, and are not suffering from what is called "Buyers Remorse" (whereby your questioning your decision for the sake of it), then best thing is go to them, tell them you wish to cancel the contract, accepting you will not get your deposit back, and moving on.
This is why it important to always consider any agreement you plan to enter into. |

you wont get it back...they will say that your deposit was used for ther admin charges....are you sure your not suffering from "buyers remorse?" why have you changed your mind? you could always play the deception card and tell them something like...you have just been offered employment overseas and hope they give you some or all of your deposit back |
