You can be held liable in this case. If your safety is a concern you need to contact the Police. Document everything. Most Landlords are understanding if you explain your situation and give them 30-60 days notice. If you decide that you are going to break your lease you are going to need to convince a Judge and not the Landlord that your safety was a concern living there. Most importantly don't risk your own safety if you are in danger. A lease does have legal consequences, but your life is worth more then those consequences. |

If you feel you are in danger you have the grounds to break the lease. But like everyone else is saying, be sure to inform the police. I am pretty sure you have to show a copy of the police report to break your lease without being fined. At least thats how it is up here. Good luck. |

you'll need to go with the majority on this one call the cops first, file a report or get an event number, file a restraining order or injunction, if possible, once that's documented go to the office again and let them know that you know they told and move out. afterwords i'd file a complaint against the complex you may end up losing your deposit but you definitely have grounds to go without penalty. |

You need to just make sure to put your safety first. You do not deserve to live in fear, if you feel like you are really at risk, just go and figure it out later, **** LANDLORDS |

The answer here is YES.
When you signed the lease it came with an assumption of typical safety. If that is not the case, then you can break the lease.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined by the previous answers as far as communicating with the landlord, filing a police report, etc...
But FIRST, if you suspect danger, get out - let the dust fall another day.

When you make a complaint about a neighbor in a complex, the leasing people are NOT ALLOWED to rease any information to the people that were complained about.
That is a rule..since they have took it to that extent, i'd move out and if they try to su you id tell the courts what happen.
More than likely nuthing would happen if you moved out anyways!!! |

Sounds like order of protection territory to me. First, tell your landlord about these problems. If he doesn't help, and also he gives you a hard time about the lease: it's lawyer time. |

Your landlord isn't obligated to break the lease.
You have to go to the police..obviously you aren't afraid enough to do that.
The police aren't going to do anything because it's your word against theirs.
So far, you have no legal reason to break it.
PS: Did it occur to you that the "man" who followed you home...LIVES THERE or has friends that do? |
