Unless something else is specified in writing, the deposit belongs to all of them. If one paid it, you should have had an agreement written out that he would get the deposit back. Even if you're the best of friends or relatives, things need to be spelled out and in writing to be sure everyone is on the same page. |

The money is returned to the person(s) who signed the lease. But only after the apartment is completely vacated.
If I were the landlord the check would be make out the: "Joe Smith, Jane Doe, Sally Goodbody, Pete Moss and Billy Bob" - writing very small, of course. How they cash it is their problem. |

Depends on who paid it. If one person paid it, it's theirs. If more than one paid it, then it should be split that number of ways. You'll be very lucky to see your deposit, most landlords retain it against alleged damages done to the property. |

If one tenant paid, then they would get the deposit, or if the deposit was split between the five then they would get thier share.
Basically, the deposit would go to whoever paid it in the first place. However, if there was no proof it was just one person, then you may have to check with someone like Citizens Advice as to what would happen then. |
