No I don't agree . Too many people are financially strapped right now because the price of gas is way up there . It makes getting to work more expensive.
Farmers use a lot of gas to raise our food- - - food prices shoot way up . Food is no good to us in some farmer's field . It must be trucked - - - more gas , up goes the price .
Everything we must have goes through many steps before it ends up in our homes . Each step means fuel , fuel means higher price .
Too many can't afford to buy a house now because of everything else taking up all of their paycheck .
When a two hundred thousand dollar house is reduced two or three thousand , too many still can't buy it . Feeding the family comes first . |

I agree with Tony D. There are lots of new homes in my area that have been vacant for about a year.
People just don't want to spend money on something that's over priced, and not worth its value.
Like others said, the problem is with getting a loan.

Supply & demand. Also, we all know it is a buyers market & buyers are really coming in with low offers to get more house. This is also hurting the housing market. If anyone is in the market for a home, consider offering full asking price so the sellers would be willing to contribute to your closing costs & help the market out. |

Since the banks are one of the biggest investors in property, both directly and indirectly, I don't see how they stand to gain from the fall in house prices.
In the UK, at least, the fall can be attributed to a shortage of mortgages (due to problems at the beginning of the year many of which were due to the American mortgage market and the sale of bad securities), the rise in interest rates, which is connected to the global money market and the need to attract investment rather than to make more profit for the banks but also affects the price of lending, and the general concern about the rise in the cost of living due mainly to increased oil prices.
If people don't feel they can afford (and actually can't afford) to buy houses, the demand drops and so does the value of property.
It can be argued that property prices have actually been artificially high (in some parts of the country) for several years and that this current fall in value is, at least in part, just an effect of the market returning to normality. It's hard, of course, on those who have bought a house in the last two or three years but good for those expecting to buy in the next few months.
I know that your question wasn't entirely serious but I had to say that, of the many ways the banks have devised of picking our pockets these days, I don't think this is really one of them! |
