Tell him to find somewhere else to live.

Do not let him live with you. For one thing, he CAN'T unless he's put on the lease. If he lives there without being put on the lease, and your landlord finds out, you can BOTH be thrown out.

You need to make the owner aware that he will be living there. They should do a credit check, and add his name to your lease.

He will be liable for 50% of the rent, and all expenses associated with the unit. If he is telling you that he will not pay 50%, DO NOT LET HIM MOVE INTO THE UNIT. Our rental agreements stated that if someone moves in after the original rental agreement was signed, the rent would increase $100 per month.

If you get behind with your rent, both of you can be evicted. It sounds like he is looking for a place to freeload until he can find someone else to freeload on.

i wouldnt. for one hes SHOULD be on the lease. second if he doesnt want to pay half hes only trying to cheat you... thats not fair to you as it IS your apt.....your apt your rules if he doesnt like it he can find his own place. but dont let him push you over just cuz hes your brother.

I wouldn't let him live with me. Duh.

Either not let him live there, or at least figure something out where he can help out financially, like pay the cable bill, or something. It also depends on the quality of your relationship with your brother.

Tell him he can stay with me in the apartment if he keeps the place spotless, buys all the groceries for both of you, and does whatever you say. If it doesn't work out, you have nothing to lose by booting him.

It's the Snow White agreement.

Write down the basic rules before move-in. Cover things like rent, utilities, food in fridge, sleep overs and cleaning the shared area. This way there are no misunderstandings down the road. Be reasonable and let him know what you expect. Also check with your landlord, sometimes a background check is required.

SmartA$$
First, check your lease. Most of the time he would have to be put on the lease. If you ignore this requirement, your landlord can evict both of you and the eviction on your record will make it hard to find another place to live.

It all depends on the situation. Normally, I would say that someone needs to split all the bills in order to live with me. However, I would make exceptions for family if they were in need of some help and I was able to give it.

Is your brother in a tough situation and asking for some help, or is he just being a freeloading bum?

If he's being a freeloader, I wouldn't help him.

If he's in a tight spot, like maybe he just lost his job, then I'd probably help him out but I would lay out clear expectations about him looking for a new job and moving out within a certain period of time. Also, I'd expect him to pull his weight doing chores and keeping the place clean.

Well are you going to take him to raise or what? If he's not agreeable to 50-50, then if you let him move in, you are going have a nightmare on your hands. You'll probably end up supporting some of his friends too. I would not do it if I were you.
