Artisan | If you combine an extra payment AND a biweekly payment will you shave twice as much off your mortgage? |

A typical mortgage is usually a 25 year term.
By paying bi weekly, you can pay off your mortgage in 15 years. You can also shave off more time on your mortgage by simply adding an additional $50 a month. Just make sure you don't overpay in a year's time as the bank can penalize you for it! |

Yes as long as you make sure that the payment is applied to the principle amount of the mortgage. If you do not tell them to apply it to the principle than they will apply it to interest and this will get you nowhere. |

Always apply the extra payments to your PRINCIPAL and you will cut a big chunk out of your mortgage. |

im 17 and i just took a financial class just a few weeks ago and we talked about this kinda stuff... im not sure if u can make payments 3 times a month. u would have to talk to ur financial advisor to refinance ur payments. but i do kno that if u pay the same amount say 200 per month and split that 200 into 100 bucks twice a month u will end up paying less interest and pay off ur mortgage quicker than if u were to pay the same amount just once a month... i kno that is weird considering whether u pay 2 100 dollar payments or one 200 dollar payment a month but in the long run the bi monthly thing is better for that reason. its like compounding interest or somethin like that... ask ur financial advisor if 3 monthly payments could be possible. im sure u can |

If you pay bi-weekly essentially you are making an extra mortgage payment every year which will be applied to your principle and save you interest. If you double that amount then yes, it will save you twice as much on interest.
I hope you aren't going through one of those companies that set you up for automatic payment and pay your mortgage bi-weekly for you. It is a waste of money because you can do it yourself. |

The easiest way and the one with the most advantages to you is just include money earmarked for principle with your regular monthly payment. We knocked 10 years off our mortgage doing that. Also the months when money is tight you are not obligated to send extra. Just takes some discipline. |

depends on how long you had the property. |
