If you lived in a house and moved can you go back and ask the people that live their for you to see inside?
like if you lived their as a child?

TheMom
You can ask. I did this, after about 30 years.

I was amazed how much smaller it was then I remembered!

The people also loved meeting the woman who had the little bitty hands in their patio! It was the hands that let them in, when I told them my name, that I had written it years before.

They loved hearing about the the fireplace, my grandfather was a stone mason and I remembered not only him building it, but cleaning the bricks off. We were too poor for new ones, we used ones he got from a torn down building.

tardis_mom
You can ask, but they have no obligation to let you in. And quite frankly, with all the weirdos out there I wouldn't let a stranger into my house.

yeah but don't expect that they'll let you, it really depends on the people living there now

You can, but it's the owners choice whether they let you in or not.
Personally, I wouldn't let anyone in my house I didn't know, but there's no harm in asking.

You can ask them but they don't have to let you in. In this day & age, people aren't as trusting of strangers, that they used to be. Can you blame them? If I had someone approach me about going on a tour of their former home, I would not let them in.

You can ask but they probably wont let you!

Imagine if a starnger turned up at your door just now asking to look about when your right in the middle of like, making dinner or something! You wouldnt be too happy either, and also think they were in to rob, kill or rape you! i know i would.

Most people would find that perfectly normal, but just in case they are weary take some photo's of you in the house as a child, it would be great as an icebreaker.

infinite crisis 247
you are welcome to ask, but they don't have to oblige. remember, they own the home now, so if they don't want you there, than you must respect that. after all, they don't know you from adam, and for all you know you could be casing the place to rob them later.

You can certainly ask, but they obviously don't need to allow a stranger into their home. My mom has visited her childhood home and the owners we're happy to show her around. My advice is to look as non-threatening as possible and compliment them on the changes even if you don't like them. I would assume that most people are curious to revisit their old homes, so they will probably be willing to give others the opportunity.

There's no harm in asking. The worst they can say is no. x

Yea but I'm not sure the people living there now will like it.

You can ask,but i know what sort of answer you would get in todays climate of oportunist crime.

Sweetharttt
You can ask, but that doesn't mean they have to allow you entrance.

Were it me, I would not. Sounds kinda weird to me.

WelshLad
Personally I wouldn't do it, I watch The Real Hustle.

new nanna
You could always ask, but no doubt they would tell you where to go. I know you will be eager to rekindle childhood memories, but just think of the situation nowadays where there are so many "undesirables" out there wanting to attack and rob people. You'll frighten them! If you do ask, don't be offended if they refuse your approach.

Back to the drawing board
I'd be inclined to write a letter first to the address rather than just turning up out of the blue, or maybe phoning. You could get the person's name from the electoral register and the number from directory enquiries. If I was writing I'd just introduce myself and say I used to live in the house, and would they like to maybe meet me and hear my memories and anything I could tell them about the history of the house etc, and I'd love to see it again if I could visit. That would give them time to check old directories to see if I was genuine, if you're married give them your maiden name so they can do this, and if it's someone living on their own they could arrange to have someone with them. If they don't reply that's almost it, unless you knocked on a neighbour's door and just asked them how well they knew the person next door, and if they thought the person would mind if you asked. You need to protect yourself as well, almost everyone has assumed that the person would feel at potential risk from you, but you could also find yourself entrapped by a real weirdo, I'd say don't go alone if you do get invited and have any doubts about the person.
Remember also that you may not like the way they have changed the house since you lived in it.

schwildcat1977
You can ask people anything you want to- but they do NOT have to let you.

It is not your house anymore and you have no claim to it.

Most people would probably shut the door in your face and call the cops.

i don't see anything wrong with it.

All the other points are valid, but I just wanted to say:

Good Luck!!

(I really hope they let you look round it - I know how much it would mean to me to see the house where I lived as a small child again).

There is no harm in asking, just be sure you have a clear picture of why you are going there.

I have heard of people knocking on a door saying "I have always admired this house driving by, could I see the inside?" This can be typically be expected to be a no, especially if a woman lives there and answers the door.

Considering all the robbery and kidnapping schemes out there, do not expect a warm reception. To improve your chances, be willing to hand over ID, car keys, or other "insurance" type things to gain access.

you can always ask. some people might be ok with it.
