It depends. We all create our reality & I don't mean that as a negative judgment to anyone. There are people who will end up on the streets. There are people who will have someone take them in. There are others who will get government help. There are probably many more scenarios that I have no clue about because I am not around people like these. I know friends of mine from my spiritual center just helped open a new homeless shelter for me. They needed to do this because there are so many more people in need. There are more people on food stamps now than there has ever been ever. I know you can be thrown in jail if you live on the streets so I don't what people go through but it does seem like it would be so hard to survive. I know where I live people live under the bridges & it is so cold out so I don't know how they survive. |

Of course! There are plenty of homeless people in America "surviving" as we speak.
The question is really: Does mankind want to merely survive or live fulfilled lives? |
|

Katherine
|
yes, u can |

People loose jobs every day. Almost every one has los one at one time or another.
You do not remain unemployed if you do not want to, get another job. |

No, because there is nothing for a person in America to fall back on. There is no "safety net," so to speak in this country. It is either sink or swim. The social welfare programs are a joke in this country and are perpetually under-funded and useless. No, I do not think you can survive and even if you got a job you are looking at bills, bills, bill up the ying-yang. |

at that point, it is up to one of two things: pray to god that there are nice people in the world that will help you, or, plead insanity to a murder. that should do it. |

If you don't have dependents, government assistance is very limited or non-existent. Even then, there are homeless families, and there are still benefit time limits. There is no "welfare" anymore. If you don't have friends or family who are willing to take you in, your only choice is to live on the streets. Some people do not survive that. |

Jobs here are easy to come by if you are willing to do the hard work and live cheaply. Pizza delivery people make at least ten bucks an hour and that's mostly cash tips. Afternoons are slower than nights, so let's call it 50 a day. If you work 6 days a week, which many people do with much better jobs, that's still a grand a month. I've lived on 500 a month. It can be done if you split a place with someone, cook all of your meals and don't waste any money at all. You can also go to the temporary daily labor pools run by most city governments. You can make 50-100 a day at many of these jobs.
However, it's almost easier to do better than this. The big difference between the US and alot of other places is, that if you are lazy or spoiled, or really, really stupid, you are going to have a rougher time. If you are willing to work hard and have basic common sense, you can have a job tomorrow and work your way up from there.
For the record, I've been out of work from my primary occupation twice for almost a year each time. I do what I need to, within legal limits of course, to earn what I can, and live on a shoestring. The poster than said it's very difficult but doable is absolutely right on.
Something else to consider - no where else in the world are literally millions of illegals risking their lives and leaving it all behind to come to like they are in the US. Immigrants from all over the world struggle to come here. Thousands of cubans have crossed a large section of open ocean and risked their lives to come here. Thousands of Asians have shipped themselves in cargo containers to get here.
These folks arrive with virtually nothing and make a go of it.

New York State has really good unemployment benefits. I know people to get them all winter each year. I'd guess it depends on the state.
But there are always shelters for temporary homelessness. |
