If you rent a house do you have to pay a fee of $1000 dollars for credit check?

I pay less than $20 total for credit checks from all three bureaus.

These people sound like crooks.

I recommend that you do not want to have a crook for a landlord.

I recommend that you have nothing to do with these people.

Landlord
I pay 20 for a check. While it is legal for me to charge more, which I personally do not, 1000 is over the top.

You need to skip this landlord, they will always be trouble for you.

Your definately getting ripped off. Your bank should do them for free. At most like a $50 sur charge.

You don't have to pay that fee, but if you agree to it, then it's perfectly legal.

In Colorado, you are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies each year. You can probably request one and pass it along to the landlord, but he/she shouldn't be charging you any more than $25 or $50 for the credit check.

.. lara ..
h*ll no!! the $1000 sounds like that would be the initial deposit... normally credit checks ONLY cost around $10-$25 depending on where and who's doing it. good luck... and make sure you look into that stuff before giving money and signing contracts. (:

Dr. Deth
If landlord wants to do a credit check, make them pay for it - shouldn't be more than $50

athomas4224
Usually when a landlord does a credit check, the amount will be included in the application fee which is an average of 35.00. That person is ripping you off. I would run the other way. Who knows what they will try to pull later on when you live there.

:)
1,000!!! wow thats nutz, no I have never heard of that

Say what? I wouldn't, never heard of that, sounds illegal, and if it isn't, it should be.

Ummm no $1000 for a credit check. Sweetie your getting raked over the coals

IMHO
What? No. Someone is ripping you off.

Freeport77541
if its a private owner they can charge whatever they like.

pssttt... i will give you a hint, they do not want to rent you the property and do not have the guts to tell you we do not like you and do not want you in our house

$1000 for a credit check is highway robbery !
Report them.

NO. That is way to much and sounds illegal. The most one person should pay is about $50. Someone is ripping you off horribly!
