Minors may not enter into contracts of any kind.

In order to rent your own place you need to have the ability to prove that you can pay the monthly rent.

Further most states limit the number of hours a minor may work,so earning enough, to pay for rent would be a problem, even if you did work.

I suggest you make the best of whatever situation you are currently in, attend some type of college even if it is Devry or some other trade school.

This will enable you to earn the maximum amount of money once you are on your own and renting or buying a place.

In our society the more education you have the better off you are financially both materially as well as socially.

Things might appear bleak now, but they will be even bleaker as a man of 25-30 years of age working for minimum wage at McDonald's or Walmart. These two careers you can do without, but without an education you, get your blue apron and your paper hat.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

No. You need to be 18 to sign a contract.

if you were a landlord
would YOU rent to a a 14 year old?
didnt think so. enjoy your family. your their till your 18
=]

HanZ
only a dummy will rent a house to a minor.

ashley
no, you can become emancipated at sixteen by a judge but until then no landlord would let you rent a place. you're a huge risk due to your age. you probably don't have credit, and teenagers are known to be irresponsible.

just curious though, why exactly are you living with friends? don't you have parents or any family at all? i just feel like 14 is kind of young for that lifestyle.

Jake
Nope, btw who moves out at 14?

ibu guru
Of course not. No landlord can or will rent to a child. You cannot legally sign any contract or agreement. You cannot hold a job and earn enough to pay the rent. You cannot open your own bank accounts in your name. You have no credit and are too yound to obtain any.

And unsupervised minors are pain the the buttinsky as far as landlords are concerned. Most are leery of renting to anyone under the age 21.

What are you doing living with "friends" instead of your parents? You realize the authorities can pick you up and take you to juvenile hall or place you with a foster family?

you may have to divorce your legal parents if you are under 17 yrs of age. like mccoughley culkin from home alone. and where do you work, missy?

Alec Swan
No, as a minor; you can't legally enter into an enforceable contract without a co-signer that is an adult.

you'd have to be an emancipated minor, this process is really complicated and has tons of requirements that you would have to meet. Even if you were to legally separate yourself from your parents most people still would not rent to you until you are at least 18

ummm no the age for living alone is still 18

I do not see any landlord accepting a 14 year old as a paying tenant. You are not able to sign a lease since you are a minor. Have you figured out how you would be able to pay for rent plus utilities and food? We are talking at least 600.00 - 700.00 a month for a small one bedroom.

Sorry.

i say no. if you have a good job that can pay all of the bills then yes but i think you to young to do so.

uh huh sure
Nope it's a voidable contract with an illegal person, and no one wants that.

I'm sorry you are homeless otherwise, I understand many homes are unlivable...

Do you go to school? Talk to a counselor. They will put you in a home and make you go to school,if that is not acceptable to you, then really would anyone want to rent a place to a minor with no education, no background of loyalty or experience or following the rules no matter how bad or distasteful?

That's why, not to mention they couldn't enforce the lease or rental and get their damages back should you not care for your responsibilities.

Also, who would look good putting a 14-17 year old out on the street?
Only those who had REALLY good reason.

So, get some experience being responsible and trustworthy under adverse and objectionable conditions and by then you are old enough to be sued and not a minor.

All the best.

PS I just read the comments and I bet someone like Jeff A would LOVE a 14 year old girl to come to his home and rent a room to her, someone with no parents or place to turn...

OMG.... Jeff do you understand HOW SCARY you sound?
Do you REALLY want a 14 year old girl to go to a strangers home and rent out a room? And you call US idiots? You seriously scare me.

hey there delilah <3
ughh, i wish. i'm 14 too and i realllllllly wanna rent my own placee, i already have a job. and i could just bike to school. my parents r moving back to my old neighborhood, and i really wanna stay where i am. sorry, :[

A better question is...what kind of parents do you have that would actually let you?

You can't move out on your own b/c you cannot legally enter into a contract as a minor, you should be in school (or else you'll be poor for the rest of your life) so you can have a future.

If your mother is not providing you a place to live, then report YOURSELF to social services...a foster home may be better than with your mother.

In most states, children that get out of the foster care system can have their education paid for if they go to a state college.

No you are underage and cannot legally sign a contract and no one can legally sign for you to live on your own. I don't know what to tell you. Even if it were legal, do you have a car? Do you have a job? How with rent could you also afford to pay for a car, car insurance, taxes, groceries, gas, electric, water/sewer, garbage collection, clothes and accessories (deodorant, shampoo, dish detergent, etc.) and any other expense such as cable, internet, phone? There is a lot to consider when you move out and as a rule of thumb, you should always make 3x more monthly than your monthly rent payment. And, when you add all of the other expenses above, you need to make so much more.

Find a family to help you out.

Coors
Nope, you need to be 18 to enter into a legal contract such as a rental agreement. If you can't go home, you'll have to keep staying with your friends for the next 3 years. Look into emancipating yourself from your parents to become a legal adult. Different states have different rules as to the age at which they will allow you to do this.

no one will rent to 14 year old. How do you plan on paying for the place even if you could rent.

Depends on where you live-but you will have to court and get your self declared an emancipated minor.

Here's a link explaining it

Don't listen to these idiots. They are right that legally you can not rent until you are 18, but not everyone follows the law. You would have to rent out a room from someone's home, or you may be able to rent an apartment as long as the Renters don't ask you to fill out too much paperwork, otherwise it will come back to them you are too young with no credit history or rent history and they won't rent to you. Renting a room from someone's home usually doesn't involve paperwork and they won't ask your age, or they won't care. Also they can rent to you from month to month and kick you out if you don't make rent and there won't be a contract. Be careful who you rent from, they may try to take advantage of you. Either screw you out of money or worse, take advantage of a runaway girl living with them. I would encourage you to never rent from a single male, ever. Look for a kind old woman type to rent from. You can also hit up churches in the area and talk to pastors. To avoid them reporting you to the police, you will need to go to a public computer, like at a library. Make a new e-mail on that computer, and use it on that computer only. You can send an e-mail out to individual pastors, one at a time, and ask them if they would be able to help you. If they want to meet you right away, tell them no, correspond with them for a while first, see if they can help line you up with a job or a place to live.

You ought to know you have to have a full time job to pay for rent. Rent can be anywhere from $500 and up each month, depending on where you live. You at the age of 14 probably don't have a full time job. I would apply to work as a secretary or a cashier or something simple at different small companies, they won't care how old you and will probably pay you "under the table" (they won't report to the IRS they hired you and you won't have income taxes taken from your pay checks which is nice).

On your own at 14, that is tough. If you ever need someone to talk to or advice, please don't hesitate to ask me for it. People here will just write you off as a child, like you can see from the answers you are getting. I know life doesn't always work out like it should, and I'll help you out as best I can with advice. I'll be praying for you.

Edit:
Hey globular I told her not to rent from creepy single guys, so don't accuse me of being a pedophile, I'm just not stupid like you and think that it isn't possible for someone without papers to get a job or a place. Illegal aliens do it all the time, why can't a minor slip through the cracks? You think the foster care system is just the thing for her? Yea, like the foster care system screens for pedophiles before they begin placing children in their care. Unlike you, I don't trust that the government knows what is best for this 14 year old girl. She obviously knew she was in a bad situation at home and was smart enough and brave enough to get herself out of it. I wish life was always ideal, and parents are loving and don't beat their kids or whatever, but sometimes that just doesn't happen, not everyone gets to have the perfect family to grow up in, like I did. I don't for one second take my parents and family for granted, I was extremely blessed, and the more I see the world, I see how ugly it can be but I also see people like this girl who work hard and overcome it. I have friends who moved out and got their own place and a job before they were 18 and they needed to. Just because someone is under 18 doesn't mean they have **** for brains, yea they have a lot to learn, but sometimes life doesn't wait until you are 18 for things. Boy it must be nice to fall asleep at night with the delusion that everything is right with the world.

You are really big and tough calling a man online a pedophile. What are you in the third grade? Next time you think someone is a pedophile, be a real man and report them. You really think I'm a pedophile, report me. Go right ahead. I've got no 14 year old girls renting a room from me that I have to hide. I am going to be starting my own family soon, and 14 year old girls are closer to be my idea of a daughter than a sexual treat. You are a jackas$.
