Im buying a home, do i give my realtor a closing gift?? ?
We are closing on our house this week and i need to know if we buy the realtor a closing gift (if we are the buyer) or does he buy us a gift... or both??

Please help. . thank you

The commission is a nice "gift" to the agent.

Usually you, as the buyer, would receive a little gift from the agent as a thank you for the business. And so that you keep them in mind should you be buying and selling again as well as sending referrals their way.

Traditionally, it is the realtor and not the client who does the gifting.

But what a charming thought if you absolutely love the house, the deal and the service...why not?

glenn
I am a Realtor. I rarely give a closing gift and rarely receive a closing gift. I don't think it is strange or rude to give such things but I think it is unnecessary.

Your realtor's gift is the commission they receive at closing. Just spread the word to your friends and family when they are going to sell or buy. That's the best appreciation you can show.

NO you don't buy them a gift, although you can give them a Thank You card. They are getting paid at closing for their efforts on your behalf. Many, but not all realtors, give a housewarming gift, giftcard, or take their clients out to dinner. It's not mandatory. If you feel your realtor was exceptionally attentive to you and you wish to give them a gift, do so. Realtors are having rough time right now, so restaurant gift card is great thing to give them.

A simple thank you card will suffice. The BEST thing you can give him is to send him new customers.

As with anyone who provides a service, anything beyond the base price of their service is never r e q u i r e d. However, if they did an exceptional job or went above and beyond their call of duty, a thank you gift would be in order.

IT'S ME AGAIN
he is getting your commission, you buy him nothing, he on the other hand will probably buy you something, when we closed and got the keys to our new home on the table when we walked in was a ton of stuff, a bottle of wine, a bouquet of flowers, boxes of candy, popcorn treats for the kids, mixed nuts, cheese, a package of very expensive imported chocolate, a card and a balloons and some other stuff i cannot remember, but you don't buy them anything, they are making ten percent off the top of what you are paying to begin with, congrats on your new home

The biggest gift you can give is a referral, or several!

bellamyhaley
no way they make good money just for closing for you on the house.

No, there's no need to buy your realtor a gift. He was just doing his job, and he's going to get paid for his efforts.

Some realtors will give gifts to their buyers and some won't. There's no hard and fast rule.

Don't stress over gifts. You've got plenty to keep your mind occupied this week!

Given your realtor is profiting from your business, just a thank you card would be in order. If you believe s/he went the extra mile, then go ahead and purchase a small gift.

At our closing, our realtor kindly gave us a gift card to Home Depot with a nice, handwritten note. :)
