Don't waste your folks' money or your time. What interests do you have? Could one of them lead you to a career? Maybe what you like to do could be offered through a technical college or the vo-tech section of the jr. college. Be honest with your folks. I found during 15+ yrs of teaching that most 18--20 yr olds had no desire or business being in college, and their grades reflected that. Go get a full-time job--even if it's McD's--while you figure out what you want to do. If you do have a specific interest in something, try to find an entry-level job in that interest. For example, I had a friend who was interested in plants, so instead of studying horticulture at the college level, he found a job in a nursery and got a lot of hands-on training. If you present this to your folks the right way, they will eventually understand, especially if you start paying room and board and claim specific household chores as your responsibility. Get a job mopping floors at a peep show.

You will never be short on work.

No! Stay in school! It will be over before you know it and you will be very happy you did.

Even though the market is pretty bad right now, being a real estate agent can make you some money. However, understand the times are lean and you will not make the money you normally could out there. When times were better, my brother in law was clocking in over 80 grand a year as an agent. He got his brokers license and made even more money. Also, think about being an ecotech. (The guys that scan your heart) They go to school for about 2 years and become certified to scan hearts. They make a ton of money once they get certified (something like 60-70 dollars an hour)

I have no idea, but I am in the same boat you are.

trade or technical schools are great
know many graduates of these 16 month programs
doing very well
check in to them
also local community colleges offer 16 month programs
as well for many things, Pharmacy tech
Radiology tech
HVAC tech
do some research - 16 months
is not a long time, plus these
programs are fairly easy!

GOOD LUCK

Yes, but the time it takes to move up sucks.

I worked my way up in retail to a district manager and then quit because the pay was not great (about 40k/yr) and the hours were horrible (60+ on a slow week)

I now am back in school and trying for a business managment degree so I can actually find a good long term job.

Electrician or plumber. My parents have two plumbers fixing a pipe outside. It will probably take them 4hrs and they are charging over $800.

How about joining the military?

Try to get in the accounting field. You won't be the manager or the CFO without the college degree & certifications, but you can be the staff doing account receivable, collections , payroll or account payables. These positions starts at $40K & will go up as your gain experience. They don't require a college degree. The working environment is nice, air conditioner office, no hard sweaty hands-on duties. May work for you!

There's lots of good jobs that don't require a full college degree, but most do requiring some schooling. Jobs like EMTs, auto mechanic, firefighter. Or you could try and join one of the unions and get in the apprenticeship programs. Electricians are in high demand and make some good bucks. You could also try and get into construction but the illegals have driven wages down considerably. The military is also a good choice, you can serve 4 years and after you get out and if you are ready at that point in your life, go back to college.
