Some apartments are wage resticted so that those less fortunate can afford decent housing. When applying in the future first find out if they are wage restricted and go from there. By the way if you have some extra cash laying around..........ah hell forget it....lol ! |

Well if it is a substitise apartment of supportive housing or some kind of disability, then yeah you probably have to make only a certain income. |

It may be low income housing. |

They are probably subsidized apartments where the government gives the owner money to only rent to low income people.
It's not uncommon. |

That apartment complex offers lower rent intended to help low income families. They receive money from the government to cover the difference between what they could collect in rent, vs what they actually charge. Since they receive government funds intended to help low-income families, the government regulates the income limits for people who live there. |

I've heard of this in situations where the apartment complex is eligible as "affordable" housing and the income requirements are capped. This will allow residents to qualify to live in decent, affordable places and not get priced out of the area. Sometimes the rates are augmented by some housing dept with city, state or federal funds. |

It is probably housing for low income people and they need to save the apartments for people who really cannot afford to live anywhere else.
I know it seems like discrimination...... |

Where is this apartment? |

Usually people only have to worry about that if they are applying for low income housing. I've never heard of that for anything else though. Maybe you should apply somewhere else or buy a house instead of renting. Especially if you make over 30,000 a year you should have more than enough to buy a decent home. |

Yes, it sounds like a tax credit, bond or MPDU. The rent is based on median income for that area. The financing requires them to market to households within the bracket assigned to qualify for the financing of the the property. (mortgage)
There is nothing they can do to assist you they can not bend the rules at all. They get audited yearly and if they are not in compliance it is very expensive to the landlord to get out of the non compliant problem. |

Yes, the apartment you are trying to move into is classified as Low Income Housing. It is a government subsidized housing project that pays most of the rent of it's tenants, who must qualify by earning the community definition of poverty. These properties must provide the same amenities as other apartments in the area, therefore they often appear very similar to, if not nicer than, full price apartment communities. |

This is subsidized housing. The state or some government agency covers part of the cost to benefit those who don't make enough to afford the going rents in the area. They figure anyone who makes more than 31,000 can afford the usual going rate. |

I have heard of it, my friend and I were going to get an apartment one time and that happened to us as well. I think it is an apartment that accepts section 8. I think it is quite retarded myself, wouldn't they rather have someone who could most definitely pay the bill. egh |
