I give this landlord a deposit for a house. I changed my mind and I want my deposit back. The landlord refused to give me a refund. He claims that we have a verbal agreement.
Most states allow 3 business days for a rental agreement to be cancelled. How long after you gave him the deposit did you cancel?

I GOT YOUR ANSWER IF YOU GOT THE BALL$: I had the same situation once. I raised hell and was thrown off the property. Not knowing what else to do to, to get my money back, I contacted the landlord and said "Okay, I'll take the place." I didn't want the place and knew that after I'd raised hell that the landlord would never want me living on the property, so the landlord had no choice but to refund my money. Good luck!

You'll have to sue him. Even then you may not get it back. Just learn a valuable lesson from this. A verbal agreement isn't worth 2 cents. Get everything in writing.

Sorry. When you "changed your mind" you forfeited the deposit. That deposit pays the landlord for the time he had the house off the market. Next time, don't put a deposit down until you are more certain you want to live there.
