About $1200. Rent is pretty high. A few years ago,when mortgages were low, you could buy a house for what rent is going for. So most people who could, bought. Those who have credit problems or are transient or don't INTEND to pay, rent. This means that it's expensive for a landlord as they get less qualified renters or transients. Then property prices soared, so it's more expensive to buy rental property and rents went up. Now it's hard to find affordable housing OR rent but it's still a good deal at 6% interest to find a cheap house to buy rather than rent, if you can. |

I live in Minnesota and the average house rental for a house that size is at least $650 a month, maybe $600 if you're lucky and find a nice landlord....not including any of the utilities.
Move to South Dakota if you want cheap rent, in the small town areas close up by North Dakota. I used to live there, and if you wanted to rent a house it would be no more than $200-300 a month, but it's a dead zone there and all the stores close by 10:00 at night. |

In Chicago, rent is much higher than, say, a small, rural community. LOCATION is a HUGE factor in determining how much one would pay for such a house. Average rent in a good location for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house starts at about $1,000/m in a suburb or city. $1,500 is not unheard of by any means. The amount of utilities included with rent is also a determining factor. In a small town or rural area, such as where I live, the rent can go as low as $550. |
