Mr. Wiseguy
Is 1200 to much to pay for rent?
for a two bedroom apartment in your area?

1200 w/ utilities included is what you will get in some cities from MD..Depends where in MD

For my area, it's a bit on the high side unless it's a rather well appointed property with amenities.

In Manhattan, it would barely get you a closet.

im a mommy~~!
in my area you would pay atleast 1450 or more where i live in maryland..the cost of living is so damn high and ridiculous..that is why we decided to move to the carolinas to cut the price in half..our morgtage payment is 1200.00..

socalteacher
in southern california, $1200 for a 2-bedroom is dirt cheap! typically, 2-bedroom apartments go for $1600-$2500, depending on the amenities...

In my area, yes.

DebtFree
thats about what the run near me, but its high.

Ari
It really depends on the area. When I was living in MD, that would be an ungodly amount for a 2 bedroom about 4 years ago. In Boston that's about what you would expect to pay for a studio.

moonlightknightsqueen
yes

Not in Central Coast CA, though inland rents for 2 bdrs run closer to 700-1000, depending on what city you're in. I think if you're in any city that's not coastal or metropolitan, it may be a little too high, unless it comes with a bunch of amenities like utilities paid, furnished, pool, etc.

yes. But it varies by location, city, and state.

No idea where you are but as a rule:

If you can find a house for X amount of dollars you like and figure the mortgage payments for a 30 year loan. Figure in taxes about 1000 a year and insurance at 700 year.+/- At a 7% interest rate. If this number you come up with is less than you 1200 rent. Then yes it is too much. Go buy the house if you can. It will be cheaper and yours when all is said in done or at least you can get some of that "rent"(principle) money back out when you sell.

730 mentioned below is for 3 bedroom 2 bath part of duplex with Basement 1/2 was 2 car garage. Too many kids in neighborhood.

I pay 1100 for three bedroom your is alot

michael w
the best way to determine this is to find what similar houses are renting for in the area. If it's 10% more, I would bother with it.
