dON'T EVEN TRY IT. i LIVED ID SOUTH FLORIDA AND IT IS ABOUT HALF AS EXPENSIVE AS CALIFORNIA, I MADE 56,00 A YEAR WITH NO BILLS AND COULD NOT AFFORD TO LIVE THERE.

james
california is way too expensive! i would say you would have to earn about 3000/month will your bills to afford a descent apartment (depending on the locastion) to make it.

bikinibabewannabe
way to expensive for your salary-even with a "raise" you wouldn't make it here

No wonder you can't make it. Is your rent $140.00 per month or $1,400.00 per month? If it is the latter, then you don't make enough to cover those three items, let alone anything else.

Add up rent, car and garnishment and it totals $2,120.00. You say your income is $1,600.00. So, you are short $520.00.

You have to eat and put gas in your car. You probably pay utilities and car insurance.

It is not California, it is you. You cannot live on $10.00 any where.
You have a bigger problem than you know.............

Your cost of living changes, as do your wages, when you move there.

Research it.

Find how much housing and everything you would need would cost on average, then research what kind of money your profession would make IN CALIFORNIA.

That will tell you what you need.

depending on what part of california, you may pay as much as $1200 a month to rent a one bedroom apt. I would say that at your current income you wouldn't qualify to rent anything, property management agencies look for rent to be no more than 35% of your income

Yes, you can try a small town in California and look around. I urge you make your trip to see it first then you can make up your mind. I urge you use first time home buyer to qualify and your credit score has to be great. You still can get 2 loans for your home and one of them has to be 40 years. Then you should get a second job to help pay for your mortgage. Do not get panic yet. You should get into 2 bed rooms condominium then build your equity up. Meanwhile,if you have asset you can invest in your home. Remember, location, location and location. You also can recruit your relative to buy with you as investment and business deal. Anything is possible in my vocabulary. I do own my home in California. Good luck and talk to the loan officers and see your option. I am not one but I advocate for first time home buyers and Below Market rate home owners as my volunteer job.
