To answer your direct question......No, Lending Tree is not a scam.

My suggestion, (and this is from someone who has bought many properties, and financed many properties), do your own research. Talk with family, friends, neighbors (even those just moving into or out of your neighborhood) and get referrals. It is absolutely free to talk with as many lenders as you are willing to do so. The lending industry has become so corrupted that many lenders are looking to make a quick buck, and therefore do not have the same interests as you might.

Lending Tree and many other similar companies use the same database for referrals. That isn't to say that you shouldn't try them, but don't limit yourself to them either. Like a bank, the lenders they use have to pay for the service, and guess who ultimately pays the price...that’s right, you do. There are hundreds of lenders out there with the same types of funding, that you can negotiate a better price with. If you are purchasing a home, remember that the 3rd party fees will be the same with any company you use, but the lender fees themselves are always negotiable.

Have a limit on what you want to pay, what you can afford, what you are willing to be flexible on, and what you will not budge on. Before even thinking of meeting with a loan consultant, you should do your due diligence on yourself, (what is your credit score, your DTI, what do your finances look like ect.). Lastly, move at a comfortable pace for yourself. If this is your first transaction, you are going to have questions and concerns, so find someone willing to sit and spend time with you. Use the time with them to interview them; know everything about yourself to answer their questions so that they can give you scenarios to work off, but don't feel pressured to commit or sign anything they have until you are absolutely sure they are the lender you want to work with. You can do all that even before they run your credit, and if they tell you that they need to run it anyway, then just walk. Give them enough information to work with, they can verify it later.

Happy Hunting

lending tree is great. they let banks look at your finacial situation and then the banks who want to give you a loan call you. it's just like monster. lending tree just puts you out there and the banks find you. we got a great morgage through that serivice with a bank in CA. we got great intrest rates and affordable payment. and we bought our first house with it. it was a very wonderful experiance. it's worth a try and doesn't cost anything:)

Lendingtree.com is a very big site that is owned by IAC. As far as i know, they are legitimate and i would trust them to find a mortgage/refinance.

Not a scam, all they do is sell your information to three or MANY more lenders who will pummel you with calls promising you the best deal in the world. They say they only sell to three lenders, but I work leads as a loan officer for 7 years, and they can sell them 60 times. If you need direction, maybe I can help. Email me at thenderson@acgmoney.com, and we can talk.

I do not believe it to be a scam.

I don't even know what it is but I can tell you it's a scam. If you have to ask, it is a scam. A tree is roughly shaped like a triangle for gods sake. Come on man.

Hello,

LendingTree is a real source to get mortgage quotes and is not a scam. You input the type of loans that you are seeking and within minutes, you start to get quotes from several sources. You may not know or like all of the companies that respond but Lending Tree is credible and it can save some time. Please note: your credit will be run by the competing lenders so your credit score may decrease by the next time you run the next set of competing lenders. Try to select well and within as tight of time frame as possible. You may be able to receive a lot of quotes before the credit bureaus are notified about the last credit inquiries. Do a little research on the banks that you are considering before asking all of them to give you a quote.
Good luck

You have to be careful and know what you are getting into. First, you specify how many offers you want, 2, 3, 4. You will get that many offers, but each lendor that your information goes to runs a credit check on you. The more checks you have on your credit worthiness the lower your credit score goes. It doesn't go down a lot, but when you are trying to get a loan, every point counts.

Guess Who
Lending Tree is a great service, and very safe.
