Michigan is a great place to live...you don't have to worry about bear attacks. I've lived here for most of my life and I've only ever seen a bear once from a distance and it was minding it's own business...and I live in Northern Michigan! I love fresh-water recreation, so it is perfect for me here. I do a lot of swimming, boating, kayaking, camping and fishing...of course these things are only really good between the end of April and the beginning of October. The winters are definitely real winters, with a lot of snow and people that forget how to drive in it year after year. The winters can be depressing if you don't have a winter activity that you like...ice-skating, hockey, snowmobiling, snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing etc. Good luck, and hopefully this has been helpful.

I really like living in Michigan - I'm a skier, so the winters don't bother me a bit! I believe that in the summer, there is no place on earth more beautiful than the Empire area.

That said, it all depends on where in Michigan you're talking about. Living in Detroit is nothing like living in Ironwood, you know? But as a whole, Michigan has average rates for state taxes, but is 12th in the nation in terms of property tax rates. If you're interested in northwest lower Michigan, check out www.taar.com to get a sense of the house prices. That's the website for the Traverse Area Association of Realtors. But even within a county, prices can vary a lot!

Michigan is a huge state with rural areas and large cities. There are depressed slums overrun with gangs and there are dairy farms overrun with cows. Housing prices vary as widely as can be imagined.

You'll have to get a little more specific about where in Michigan you want to live and what type of house you're looking for or how much money you have to spend.

I've lived all over in Michigan my entire life and my answer is absolutely not. There are so many other places to live that have more to offer. You can get Michigan's climate in Wisconsin if thats what you're looking for. There isn't really much to do...no great amusement parks or national momuments that would be of interest to go see. And the unemployment rate is unbelievable. The economy of this state needs a lot of help and most see it getting worse before it gets better if that's even possible. SO many companies have moved out or had to close their doors. The people here are quickly losing the money that small businesses need to keep themselves open and operating. I say try any OTHER of the Great Lake states EXCEPT for Michigan. Even if buying a house here was a great buy...the state itself should be a deterant no matter how good the price.

My best friend lives there and every year she comes home with the same descriptions that are great but boring when I have known her for 8 years. Anyways, she says that the houses are great, Lakes are beautiful, but watch out...there ARE bear attacks!

Michigan is alright. Be prepared for 9 months of cool or cold weather and the rest of the time is is pretty nice. We only have about 20 days or so of non-cloudy days a year and winter we don't get any sun what-so-ever. The roads are really bumpy and there is construction everywhere. Sound good?

I have enjoyed Michigan my whole life, we get all four seasons. Here is the source for a lot of Michigan info: www.michigan.gov.

House prices depend on what part of the state you are looking. Try the online Realtor websites.

Most of southern Michigan has a lot of new home construction. My main considerations would be job and schools. School of choice is an option in many communities.

get in touch with a re/max agent out there..also view come prices. I know the r/e market has been soft in michigan.
