Is a 540 sq ft. 1BR apt small?
Haven't seen the apt yet, but want to get a feeling of the size of it.

Are you in japan or NYC?

If not, then yes - too small!

Most 2 car garages are about 20 X 20, or 22 X 22. That's a bit shy of 540 square feet, but you'll get the feel of it, anyway.

My husband's Toyota Tundra with a 6 foot flatbed is nearly 24 feet long, so think about parking 2 next to each other, and that will be even closer to the size of the apt.

Remember, there will be walls in the apt (closing off the bathroom, at the very least) so it won't feel as open as a garage.

There are many clever ways to make good use of small spaces, so you might want to check it out in person before you dismiss it entirely.

Good luck and best places.

It depends on where you live. In NYC that is probably a good sized starter apartment. In SW. Missouri (where I live), anything under 1000 feet is considered tiny.

My current living room/kitchen combination is about 700 sq. feet.

my first reaction to this question is- yes!
It depends on your personal feeling too. For most people, when a 1BR apt s.f. increases to 700 it may starts to feel more loosen up, as 540 s.f. is generally tight. This is my professional opinion, as an architect.

Depending on what they are charging for it and the location.

But just on livable size alone it's a bit snug.
