sure why not?? Especially if it has always been a dream of yours to own your own home go for it! And pick a size depending on how many people live with you. U dont want a huge house all to yourself...

Its always a good idea if you can afford it. Just make sure you do a 30 year fixed loan and don't get stuck with negative amortization or adjustable. You want your payment to be consistent and not surprise you. You should have no problem selling it in 12-15 years if you wanted to when you retire.

*shrug* Why not? Seems like a bettter idea than throwing money away in rent every month.

Depending on your income because you do need enough to sock away bigtime for retirement.

Try to get as small as you need.......maybe a condo.

I would buy a small duplex myself, not a mobile home and rent the other half out to make the payment........hopefully increases in value. Try to do a 15 yr fixed then when you do retire....hopefully that becomes income producing rather than just helping with your expenses. Look to income producers....rooms you could rent.....anything to increase your ability to pay off quick or supplement income.

Good Luck

Of course is a good idea!!!!!

Your age shouldn't be a factor so much as your lifestyle. Are you planning on living there for the next few years (at least)? Do you have a stable job or stable future retirement income to support the mortgage payment? It makes obvious sense to put your money toward the investment of equity in your own property as opposed to expensing rent for someone else's. As long as the benefits outweigh the costs, it's a good decision. If you're planning on living there a very short time, your closing costs and points could cost you more than you'll save by paying toward your principle. However, if you plan to stay in the home for a while or have the ability to rent it out in the case that you leave, it's definitely worth considering. Talk to a mortgage representative about your particular situation and the best options for you. Good luck.

I'd say go for it.

For one you'll have a fixed monthly living cost rather than rents bumping up every year. Also your money can grow in simple ways such as appreciation and the tax write-offs you'll recieve.

Remeber though that a home that you live in is a huge liability, afterall it takes money out of your pocket every month rather than putting money in it.

Sure. Lenders do not discriminate due to age. If you want a home and have the resources to do it there is nothing wrong to buy a house at 50. Homeownership is better than wasting your money on rent.

Depends on how much money you have. It would be good to have a place paid off when you retire. Look into mobile homes unless you have a pile of money for a down payment. I bought a condo at 50 for 150k and paid it off in 10 years by making a lot of extra payments

I'm looking for a home now! and I'm 61

No,i don't so,because at this age u are nearly retired and i'm sure it will burdens your financial weight.however,if your income/cash flow was not enough therefore i think u better consult/approach to a professional bankers.
