BBB Serving Eastern Oklahoma began receiving inquiries from consumers in various parts of the country on February 21, 2008 regarding a company called Century Lending Group. Consumers informed the BBB that after receiving an unsolicited phone call from the company, they were told they had qualified for a loan; however, they would be required to wire advance payments to an account in Canada. The consumers are then supposed to have the loan amount placed into their personal accounts by 5:00 PM the following day. When the consumers realize the money has not been placed into the account, they call the company and are told more advance payments must be made before they will receive the money. The consumers state in their conversations with BBB staff that they have never received the promised money. One of the biggest scam-related issues the BBB system deals with nationwide is consumers wiring money into Canada and then never being able to actually locate the so-called company.

The company did not respond to requests from BBB for information on the company's practices. BBB did an on-site visit to the address the company lists in its promotional materials. When the BBB official arrived at the address, he found a large office complex. Century Lending Group, however, is not actually located at this address. The company which is rightfully located at the address asked that its name not be used in conjunction with the investigation so it would not be confused with the possible illegal scheme. An official with the legitimate company stated that Century Lending is illegally using an address for which it neither has a contract nor any other right to use. Subsequent to this on-site inspection of the company's alleged location, another BBB official did speak with a representative from the company who stated that they were "definitely located at the address in Tulsa" and that the BBB had simply gone to the wrong suite. The company representative gave a suite number and the BBB, once again, drove to the location and visited the suite. The company located in that suite is in no way associated with Century Lending and has been in that location for a number of years. In addition, the BBB investigated the company's website and found that it was created on February 14, 2008. A telephone number listed as the contact information on the registration of the website is a non-working number located in a rural Oklahoma community.
