Not all council houses are on estates. My parents have a cottage rented from the council, it's in a rural area & is one of only four cottages along that road. Two are council, two are privately owned.
I live on an estate that is fine but I have lived on a really rough one. Nowadays councils & housing associations are quicker to evict problem tenants. |

Depends on the estate - my parents life on an estate of about 20 houses nearly all of which have been bought and are in a nice respectable village and its fine, no probs. I live in a housing association flat in a city centre and it's mixed, we had one problem neighbour but got her evicted only after her friends had broken into most of our flats and stolen most of our cars. but now it's fine, all the neighbours are great and there is no trouble. Just one family can ruin everything. On the larger estates just outside the city it's rough as hell and I wouldnt live there if you paid me - in fact most of the people who live there do that very thing, all their rent is paid by benefits. Just choose carefully. |

Depends where the estate is. Some are really great others are really dangerous - some I would live others I would not. |

Depends if the council dumps a bad family in it. The estate near me was really nice until a family was relocated there because they had been chucked of another council estate. The houses are well built but do your research before hand on the residents. |

Depends in what area.
Down south of UK, they are lovely. I live in a Council house, its well maintained, in a lovely area and a very low crime rate.
My neighbours are elderly and lovely.
However i am sure a council house on a notorious estate with a high crime rate would be an total nightmare. |

I wasbrought up on a council estate, and i am now bringing my children up on one. It's not that bad, like all areas you get good and bad. It's best to look around first at different times of the day to get a good judgement |

depends on the state , if you dont mind me asking, why do you need to live in one? if you receive income support you can rent privatly and they will pay 100% of you rent anyway |

Probably a lot better than a few years ago as the Councils are strict on bad tenants and anti social behaviour. |

Not a problem. Check out the area first.
Teenagers hanging around, urine soaked mattresses flung out of windows, etc are all bad signs.
BUT don't forget that the vast majority of council tenants are very nice people. They just get on with their lives.
They don't have to worry about the house price crash either? |

It depends which estate and whereabouts it is. When you have found the address of your property go down to the nearest pub on a friday night, that will give you a good idea. |

Are you serious? Millions of decent people live in council housing. I bought my first house in 1990 and prior to that, lived quite happily on a council estate for 20 years. |
