Is is rude to request to not ride with realtor while looking at homes?
Husband and I are driving 3 hours away to look at some homes soon and the realtor wants us to ride with herin her car. The rpoblem is-We have done this before and we cant really tell how we really feel about the home with the realtor right there b/c it may be kinda rude. Just wondering if it is rude to tell him we prefer to go in our own vehicle

Actually most realtors do NOT take you in their cars. It sounds rather bizarre that she wants you to ride with her. But, just say "no thanks, we prefer ro drive ourselves".

Your question indicates that you don't understand the function of your Realtor. She NEEDS for you to tell her how you really feel. Hide it from her and how is she to find a house that you DO like????

Realtors have a tongue in cheek saying about people like you - who won't tell the Realtor what they really want. "Buyers are liars." We realize that you don't really want to "lie" to us, but the problem is that you don't tell us what you want, then get upset because we didn't find what you want...... think about it.

strtat2
not rude at all. Tell her you will follow her, you don't have to give a reason, it's your right to do whatever you want, she is probably trying to be nice and do her job by offering you to go with her.

italianoxdude
I don't think it's rude, its your preferance and I am sure she'll understand. She is doing that as a favor to you, so I don't think its rude if you deny it.

Lol, It's called high pressure sales tactics, it's so they can pump you full of all the positive things about the house and hope you will overlook the negatives.
Ask them for the address of the house you are about to see and tell them you will follow on in your car, any excuse will do, you feel safer in your own car, you want to inspect the neighbourhood after you see the house, don't be blind sided, the purchase of a house is a huge commitment, don't be pressurised.

I do not think you should ride with her if you do not want to, I did not when i used a Realtor, i just do not like to drive with others, plus i like to relax and listen to my music.

As for not telling your Realtor the truth, why? they are looking for a house that you like , why would it hurt their feelings, it is not their house besides, you will get upset with them for finding you houses you did not like , because you did not tell them, you only told each other.

I don't think it is a question of rude or otherwise. The Realtor should respect the customers preference, otherwise get another Realtor.
Is the Realtor offering to drive you the whole 3 hours? If this is the case, I don't think I would be too keen to take up this offer. I would feel a bit guilty if the outcome was no sale.

It's not rude at all! Most agents don't really care. Just tell him/her, "thanks for the offer, but we'll drive ourselves."

As for not wanting to tell the realtor how you really feel, if you don't then they won't know what you're really looking for in a home...

As a REALTOR myself, I prefer to drive my clients around, because it is during that time that I am able to learn how they are reacting to various properties, which then helps me find a better match for them.
It is also a fine time to simply have a general conversation - real estate, as with most any high-value investment arena, is as much about the personality of the people you do business with as it is about the business itself...

Having said that, if you have not hired this agent, by all means, decline the offer.

operababe_61
No, it's perfectly fine to ride in your own car. If I got in a wreck while driving clients around my insurance would probably skyrocket.

However, I totally agree what a previous poster said about being open with your agent. If you don't tell me what you like and don't like, how can I find what you're looking for? Don't say, "Oh my god, I can't believe you showed me this piece of crap house!" Say, "I would prefer a two story because they seem bigger to me than single stories. And I'd love a house where I won't have to strip 1960's wallpaper from every room."

If your agent has the demeanor of an oily used car salesman, find another agent that you actually like.

If you don't want to ride with them don't. I would be honest about the home. You are the buyer. They are working for you. A home is a big investment and is very stressful. You should not have to worry about hurting your Realtors feelings just be honest with them.
