Lil' Miss J | Is it OK to call and ask on the status of an apartment application? |
My boyfriend and Iare trying to rent an apartment. I turned in the application & fee late Tuesday(9/19) afternoon and it is now Thursday(9/21) afternoon and I have not recieved a phone call yet from the apartment manager. She told us she will hold the unit until Friday(9/22) for us. Would it be OK for me to call tomorrow and find out what the status is if I don't hear from her today?
We both have lived in other states. I have never been on a lease, he has documented rental history, I don't. I am also consolidating my credit card debt. Will any of this effect our chances of getting the apartment. She seemed real interested in renting it to us, but I don't know if that was an act or not. What do you think? |

I am an apartment manager. Sometimes we just get really busy doing other stuff...Phone calls never hurt... We forgot sometimes until the last moment... I encourage you to call her tomorrow and ask what is going on... she probably just got busy.. About your credit, it sometimes matters.. But how I think is everyone needs a place to live so must people do pay their rent so unless you have an eviction on your credit you should be fine.. Hope this helps |

ive had the same thing happen to me before one time it worked out for the bad and the other times ive gotten 2 apartments. with no rental history. youll never know till you ask and it show your interested and not jsut shopping around |

Yes call, that way she will know you are serious and still interested. She may have someone else she is trying to get in there and kind of likes them better on paper but they aren't as interested, don't take offense at it ok, it is a business transaction and happens all the time. But the thing is if they are better on paper then they are going to be more picky than you and they will probably fall through. So yes be persistent, I would give her 2-3 days between calls, and if it goes on more than a week then each time you talk ask her when it would be ok to call again for status update. Basically just be considerate. |

Its OK for you to call her, this way she knows your interested, if she said she was going to hold it for till Friday then she more then likely going to rent it to you,. there shouldn't be a problem as long as you both are working, and never had a problem were you've lived before, their looking for reliable people. good luck, speaking form my exp. |

Most definitely call. Apartment managers are Interested In renting. Also you have money on the line. Call them first thing or better yet go see them. Tell them you need an answer now! You might also tell them you have found another place your Interested In and need to know now!

I don't think those details will negatively affect your chances. And yes call, not only is it okay, it's a good idea! I work with a guy who is frequently on the phone with his wife discussing who to rent to and they often use 'well this one wanted it more badly than that one' as criteria to decide. Call her now! If you don't hear by the time she promised--say 11:00 am on Friday, I would make a follow up call. Indicate how much you like the apartment, let her know of your interest, and ask if there are any other documents or pieces of information she needs to make her decision. You have everything to gain by showing that you follow up. |

Heck yeah call that way they know you are consistence with what you do and will want you to rent from them cause you will be that way with there payment of rent money. I been i real estate for 10 yrs and I mostly rent to the ones who call me to ask me about the application. |
