Is it a good time to buy a house right now?
With the housing market bad right now, is it a good time to buy?
I keep hearing it's a buyer's market, but I also hear about horrible things with the economy. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae's getting took over, interest rates no good, elections coming up. Should I wait or hit the housing market while its' down? When do you think the housing market will boom again?

Now is the perfect time to buy. Right now where I live you only need 3% for a down payment. But it's about to go up to 3.5%
It's a good time to BUY a home....not sell a home.

May sure to get a fixed rate though!

Yes, this is a good time to buy a house right now. My fiance's parents are selling their house and they're having to go down on the price since the market is so bad. It's great for buyers... awful for sellers.

IT'S TIME TO BUY you can get houses that are worth 400,000 for 200,000 buy buy buy.

Yes it is! There are amazing deals right now. Just Make sure you really LoVE the house you buy and the location it is in, B/c it may be difficult to sell for a while. You should be prepared to stay there for 5-10 yrs. (it may be necessary).
Also, make sure you can afford it, since the economy isn't that great. Also, make sure you DO NOT get an ARM!!!! Make sure it is a FIXED rate.
Goodluck, it is so much fun house hunting

Buy Buy Buy
The market's down, so the price on the houses are low. Awesome! You might having trouble selling a house though. Bummer!

Now is a great time to buy a house, but before you buy;make sure to hit a few house for closure sales. It may sound ridiculous but you can buy a house for a family for as low as $600. i thought it was crazy too, until my parents bought the house I live in now for about $1300.

Hit it now, unless you have a low FICO score. People with a FICO score less than 600 are having a hard time getting getting loans. I'd stay away from the ARM type loans.

If you're a first time buyer you could also qualify for an extra $7,500 in tax deductions if you buy this year (I don't know exactly when the deadline is).

Now is a GREAT time to buy - a BAD time to sell.

Added: Mortgage Requirements/Qualifications are stricter, so you will actually have to be qualified to buy, but this is good - you won't get into something you can't handle later.

9 daughters
I don't think we've hit the bottom in prices yet but we're close, close enough that I've put my money where my mouth is. In the last 3 months, I've bought a new home for myself and 2 investments, a triplex and a duplex for my daughters with cerebral palsy.

The issue isn't knowing if prices are still going to drop some more but recognizing a bargain. A bargain isn't a bargain because the price is lower on the property than it was a year ago. By that definition virtually all homes would be bargains today but I can't buy all of them. A bargain is a bargain when I can get it for substantially less than equivalent properties.
