Meagan | Is it always such a freakin' pain in the *** to buy a house? |
I'm in the process of buying my first house, and I swear, every time I think it's done, they want something else! I was approved for the loan, then the underwriters wanted even more info (like a year's worth of cancelled rent checks). It's driving me freakin' nuts! Is it always this way? I swear I've done everything but sign away my first born! |

Yes. Unfortunitely this is the process. And the next question will be what color..type and brand of panties do you wear. When you answer they will want proof. And at the very last they will want to seal the deal with A F**k. I know it has been some years since I bought a house and my azz is still sore from the F**k**g, they didn't even use lubrication. |

Yes, in response to your first question. There is a lot of paperwork and a lot of submit this and submit that HOWEVER if you keep your eye on the carrot (homeownership) you'll make it through the process.
Also, as a pre-warning, there is a TON of paperwork to sign at the closing. |

That's ridiculous, tell them to get their act together. Most of this stuff should have been done up front. Sounds like they are not doing their job. You have a right to find out what's wrong, ask questions and get some answers or pull out of the deal. |

Yes, unless you're paying cash. The bank is risking a lot to lend you money. They are covering all their bases. It will be worth it in the end. |

I agree, it's a pain in the a%$ because everything. Paperwork, paying, ect,., |

Once you are approved for the loan you are not "married" to the lender. Lenders are a dime a dozen. If your not satisfied with the treatment shop around for another lender. |

It's either that your lender sucks or your credit does. When my husband and I bought our home, we showed the lender our most recent pay stubs and our drivers licenses. There was nothing else we had to do but sign the papers. The bank and the realtor worked out the rest.
Lenders are very wary of making loans to people with less than perfect credit these days. It used to be that people would always pay their house payment, no matter what else they fell behind on (and they should, a roof over your head is much more important than unsecured credit card debt), but recently, people have started to just walk away from their homes, and the lender likely sees that if you are keeping up with making the rent on time, it increases the chance of making your mortgage payment on time, as well.
If the underwriters let enough bad loans go through, they lose their jobs...that's why you're jumping through hoops for them. It could have nothing to do with you, and more to do with them creating a paper trail to cover their own butt. Keep bringing them whatever they ask for, and eventually, it will all be over. Congratulations on becoming a homeowner! |

Yes, it is supposed to be a great experience, but it is difficult, a lot of red tape. |

Meagan,
It hasn't always been like this. The problem today is mortgage lenders are so spooked by this mess, they have gone psycho in documenting everything. Two years ago all you had to do was fog a mirror and sign some loan docs. Now you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you are worthy. The pendulum will swing back, but for now, just put up with the nonsense and make your sweet real estate deal. |
