The monthly rent is negotiable, the upkeep is not. A house has more maintenance and more privacy an apartment has less maintenance and less privacy. |

There are pros and cons to each. Usually a house will offer more space but your heating and cooling costs are also likely to be higher. You may also be responsible for yard maintenance such as mowing. Cost varies according to local markets. The best bet is to check the classified sections of the newspaper in areas you are wanting to live. |

it depends on where you live but it's usually about the same maybe a little more to rent a house and a house is better, you have a yard and you don't have neighbors stomping, slamming doors, banging on things, playing loud music and so forth that you hear through the walls when you are trying to sleep. Go for a house..you can afford it unless you live in Seattle or NYC or something..I know some cities like that are just crazy for rent |

Pros of renting a house - more privacy, more space, more storage, possible yard, possibly driveway or garage.
Pros of renting apartment - lower rent, lower electric/gas bills, possibly more secure. |

When you rent a house - you are responsible for the upkeep of the yard and your neighbors are NOT on the other side of the wall. When you rent an apartment - there is no yard to maintain and your neighbors are on the other side of the wall.
Either way, you are helping someone else's credit - NOT yours. Save as much money as you can and buy a home - then you are only helping your own credit. |

A house is going to be more private, and could actually save you money if you choose to rent in a lower income neighborhood and dont mind doing yard work. Some landlords will also compensate you in rent if you make improvements to the property. |
