When we bought our first house our very nice agent gave us a wonderful muffin tin with matching pot holder and an antique clock. I had no idea that they gave out gifts. I felt like a butt-head because we didnt have anything for her. When we got out of our closing, I sent her a bouquet of flowers to her office. When we bought our second house from her, she gave us matching mugs filled with our favorite candy.
She got a commision, but she went above and beyond helping us for a year with each house without getting paid. We are not rich people so her commision was not that great with us (under $100,000 houses). She never made us feel that we were not as important as her richer clients. I think she deserved a thank you gift for her patience and wonderful service. |

No, it's no customary but very much appreciated. If you think your agent went above and beyond, than go for it. |

Gifts are really not necessary, but a nice thank you card would be most appreciated.
Actually, your Realtor should be giving you an appreciation gift! |

It's the other way around...they will usually bring you a "welcome home" gift of some sort. You're only gift to them is the huge commission they make from the sale! |

No, gifts are not really necessary. As mentioned above the best thank-you is referring your friends and neighbors to your agent. However, a close second is to send a letter of commendation to your agent and copy his/her broker. It never hurts for your boss to get good mail about your performance. |

No, but good clients and an agent giving excellent service is always appreciated.
The best gift for an agent is the referral of a friend by a previous client! |

The commission she makes is generous enough. I wouldn't, they are doing their job. |

Yes!!! Gift cards to their favorite restaurant. Gas cards are also nice. |

No, we have always received gifts from our realtors. Realtors "gifts" are in the form of their commissions from our sale. |

She should give you one, for the business you gave. |

No...remember, your agent gets paid very, very well for the opportunity to attend to your real estate needs.
I personally, would rather have a referral than any gift...to me, that is no different than you gifting the agent several thousand dollars.
Everyone likes gifts, but I never take them unless someone would be extremely offended. |

Yes it's called the commission. |

NO! In most states anything of value has to be disclosed to all parties to the transaction. Actually Realtors should buy you gifts! Enjoy. |
