Is it illegal for my land lord to share what I pay in rent with the other tenants?
We have unmarked parking spaces where I live, my downstairs neighbor is home more so generally parks in a certain spot. I had the opportunity to park in this spot so I did because parking is very limited (house not apartment complex). She came knocking on my door irrate that I parked in "her spot" and that she deserves it more because she pays more for rent. She repeatedly brought up the land lord's name as though she is the one that gave my neighbor permission to park here because she pays more in rent. Is it illegal for her to discriminate like this and to share my information with others?

If your lease agreement does not state that YOU have to park in a certain space then you are free to park anywhere. Across the street if you like. As far as your neighbor goes, if they ever again come at you as you've described, call the local police and press Desturbing the Peace charges and stick to it. Do not allow the landlord to intimidate you. Read over your lease and make sure you live as they describe for you to. Sounds like the neighbor may have control issues. If the irrate neighbor made any threats to you, place them on a peace bond, forcing them to have to move. You did say that they came to your door? Disturbed your peace? Displayed hostile intent? Discriminated againest you, by implying that their position (financial & Real estate) gave them more rights than your position to things unreserved? Persons like this are partly responsible for society as we experience it!

That's very strange. I would speak directly to the landlord. If she is paying an extra fee for the right to park in that spot, then he should make that clear to everyone.

Remember that if the rent is a fixed price and she is paying that plus a fee for the parking space, then she would know she is paying more than you without him revealing any details.

Unless that space is specifically reserved for her ,tell her first come first served. I do not think it is illegal for the landlord to tell people what you pay for rent, but it seems to me it isn't the others tenants business.

Once a landlord is paid he can do what he want with the funds. However he should not disclose personal information regarding you. Regardles of rent being paid you should also have legal rights to park somewhere as well. the confusion should be taken up with the landlord to solve the problem.

koolgurl94
I think so, unless there is somewhere in the rent contract that says "those who pay higher rent have first choice on parking spaces." or soemthing along those lines. You should talk to your land lord or call a non-emergency police number to ask what you should do. I suggest you tell her that it's just a parking space, and she should deal with it. (in nicer words of course.)

Unless you have a written agreement that says your information is confidential your land lord can discuss your rent with anyone.

ummm thats not illigal on a jail type baises, but she can legally get her job taken away or kicked out of her house

Talk to the landlord and get an assigned parking spot

artbyheather04
It might not be illegal, but you should talk to the land lord and see if that person pays more so that they can park there. If they don't pay more specifically for that reason, or if there isn't anything in the lease about the spaces, than you should be able to park there.

No it is not illegal...it is illegal for her to share your personal information such as birthday, age, ect...

If she is so upset ask her to have the landlord assign parking spaces and until he does you will park where you damn well please. (Then just to stick it to her good I would continue to park there whenever I saw fit!!!)
