I have a neighbor above me with 12 in a 3 bedroom. The individual rooms are rented out The two other apartments connected to the left have 17 people upstairs and 14 downstairs. The majority are illegal and cook their own food in their bedrooms. There are actually smoke stains from smoke comming out of the bedroom windows due to cooking. |

There are maximum occupancy laws for certain buildings so probably your right about that being a little bizarre to fit 100 in sleeping bags in the floor. I know how disgusting they live because I cleaned motel rooms in High School. If they are not taking care of their place I am sure the landlord would like to hear about it. That is disgusting. |

I don't dont about the legal aspect of it. But as a landaord they have a right to set a 2 person limit on each room. |

it is not illegal, but you should report it to your land lord or body corporate, so you don't need to pay extra for water, or electricity.
If they have children, that's another story. children have a right of privacy, which sounds to me is not there. You can report that to, but don't upset them, or let them know you reported them. They might just get vindictive. |

Depending on your state, but mostly the "law" states the you can have two people per bedroom. ***Most leases state you can not sub-lease. I would trun them in for that. 17 people is just way too many people, not to even mention the fire codes they are breaking by having stove burners in rooms that are not coded for that. This place seems like a fire trap, and a time bomb waiting to happen. |

Call the county office where you live, tell them your problem. They'll hook you up with the person who can tell you how to handle it. It probably is illegal. |

Not only is that illegal...the landlord may be able to be charged with a criminal offense....check with you local housing authority. Last month in NYC there was a horrific fire in a illegal housing situation. 16 people living in a 3 bedroom. 6 young children were killed. Landlord was charged with many counts and violations. |
