I am the owner of a beauty salon and have been operating out of this same building for the past seven years without any problems. Recently, the landlord rented the storefront next door out as a barber shop. But, now the owner of the barber shop wants to add beauticians to his shop which may threaten my business. only if it was a condition of your lease.
most commercial businesses make sure it is included in the lease that no other or only a certain amount of businesses that may compete with it are allowed in the same building or complex. |

Not unless your lease has a clause in it preventing this specific action.
I'd suggest you focus on your business and keep it competitive and aggressive.
There may be a advantage in that more customers looking for the same service will pass by and perhaps become your customers eventually. |

What your landlord is doing is perfectly legal, unless your lease gives you exclusivity, there is nothing that can be done. It's the samething in a mall where there is a food court. |

You should review your contract with the landlord to see if there is any statement that mentions about this issue. If this matter does not violate the contract, it will be legal.
To prevent this problem, make sure you have this statement on your contact when the contract renew is due. |
