Is it necessary to hire a lawyer when refiancing my home?

Not technically, even if you live in an attorney state you can call a local title company or lender and they can refer you to one. You don't really have to "hire" one. But, in attorney states, on a residential refi, you have to use an attorney, no if and's or but's about it. So, you still have to pay those fees. Which I can only hope would be less than their "regular" representing fees.

No need to hire a lawyer. Mortgage Professionals handle legal documents every day and everything is in a system of checks and balances with underwriters and with the Title company.

Nothing should take a lawyer, unless maybe you are in some weird situation that might require one. (divorce, power of attorney, etc...)

No. Just make sure you are working with a bank/broker and title company that has a good reputation.

I'm a mortgage broker and can tell you that we work a lot harder for our money than a real-estate attorney does.

Absolutely not! Shop around, compare product and value. Make an informed decision. Carefully examine the reason that you wish to refi. Think about the length of time that you intend to stay in your current home. Be sure that the cost of refi makes sense in short and long terms.

no way. just call the bank and tell them you want to refi. they will do it all for you.

Not unless there is a state specific about a lawyer closing a real estate loan (No state I'm familliar with). Any closing company, title agency or mortgage company can do something as simple as a refi close

It is not necessary, just a good bank or broker.
