Is it okay to do this when moving out of an apartment?
When moving out of an apartment, is it okay to leave the bathtub full of used clumping cat litter? You know, the kind that automatically solidifies when getting wet?

Let's say I clean out the very poopy and pee-soaked cat little box every 2nd day for a span of 6 months. Rather than throwing it away, I collect it and save it in a few large garbage bags. Then, before moving out, I empty these garbage bags into the bathtub.

It would probably stink pretty bad, and be very difficult to simply rinse out of the bathtub due to the fact that it is clumping cat litter.

Is this an okay thing to do? If not, then how bad is it?

What an idiotic question.

Its not ethical of you to leave that in the bathtub. Don't forget, the Landlord may engaged someone to clean it and deduct the cost from your Security Deposit.

lol well I say yes it's fine to do that. You obviously don't want your security depost back. Heck I say leave some cat litter in everyroom. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to go to small claims court with your apartment complex, may even get to go to the PEOPLES COURT

WOW

I would expect that would cost you.... $500 bucks.

So, if you think the entertainment value is worth 500 bucks... go for it.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get your deposit back. Why would you want to do this anyway? I imagine you do not have a great relationship with your property manager. Keep in mind...that person doesn't usually do the cleaning. I don't own any apartments but I do clean them. I wouldn't appreciate that mess. If there is plumbing damage you could be billed and would legally have to pay for damages. If you decided not to pay, the property manager would take you to court. I would think this over very carefully. Is it worth it?

bara
I think your a slob! Good luck finding another landlord to rent to you. I hope you get sued by the landlord. Grow up!

liz
Definitely not okay thing to do. You can be held liable for any damage it causes to the plumbing which can be extensive.

cope_acetic
Remember that 1st/last month security deposit you paid?

If you do THAT, the landlord has every right to KEEP it.
Kiss your $800 buh-BYE!

Lets put it this way, your not getting your deposit back and you may be taken to court for damages. And that reference, for get it you'll have a hard time finding any place around here,

Find out from the owner of the apartment. The owner must have kept some security amount. Most probably, he/she will deduct all the cleaning expenses and garbage picking expenses from your security money. If he/she did not keep any security, you can still be billed for this amount. Read the terms of conditions of rent agreement.

why would you do this fiorst of all???
second... dont worry about getting a security deposit back because you wont
chances are they might take you to court......

Imagine YOU owned an apartment building, and a tenant left all that cat litter in a bath tub in one of YOUR apartments. You can't rent that apartment until it's cleaned up, which means you either have to stop and do it yourself even though you have a lot of repairs to make and apartments to show, or you have to hire someone to do it for AT LEAST nine bucks an hour, probably more. Would you think that was okay? Would you give that tenant his deposit back? Would you give that tenant a good reference when he's looking to rent from another landlord?

And how would you like to be the new tenant moving into that apartment? You're all set to move in on Saturday, but the landlord says, "Gee, I'm sorry but the previous tenant left a half year's supply of cat litter, cat urine, and cat defecation in the bathtub, so you can move your stuff in, but until I have time to come up here with a shovel, you won't be able to take a bath." Now imagine what it's like to move into an apartment, all the furniture hauling, the boxes that need to be loaded, and all the sweating you do while you're doing it. You'd pretty much want to take a bath or a shower after that, wouldn't you?
Instead, you have to sit there while your stink becomes one with the stink in your bathroom.

Does any of that sound okay to you?

The costs of cleaning it up, and probably more, would come out of your security deposit. Also, some places will go clean your apartment, then send you the bill for it. If you want to pay for it, then go ahead.
