Okay Hero | Is it possible to find a decent home for 150,000? |
I live in the Twin Cities and would be looking at surrounding areas.
I would prefer 3 bed 2 bath but will take 2 bed 1 bath if I can add to it a den and another bathroom.
Also, my income is 25,000 year before taxes. |

Maybe a townhouse or condo. But a house? Not in the twin cities. If you were willing to move way out to the suburbs. ie north branch or princeton. |

You can't afford a house that expensive with your income, it doesn't matter if you have golden credit.
Your price range is closer to 50-60k. You might be able to find a 1-2 bedroom fixer for that, I am not sure about that market. |

I would say the first thing you should look at is can you afford a loan for that much. You'd want to stay away from adjustable rate mortages. I live in NY but I just bought a beautiful 3bdrm 1 bath with fire place, balcony off the master, and 2 porches and that was under 100k |

I dont know what the market is like but here in WISCONSIN, yes you could GET a slight Fixer upper for that price... or cheaper at maybe even 70-80K... But then you factor in the costs of repairs,.... and the potential neighboorhood...
I currently am in a mid-class neighboor hood buying my house @ 110K... WIth some needed repairs.. but all the homes in my immediate area are between 120-205K... So It is possible... but I would suggest picking up another part time job or a MATE>> to help pay.. Mortages are more that RENT plus .. you have other sewer and tax costs.. plus insurance...
You may not be able to afford it... Also with all the risky lending that companies have done in the past 2-3 years has turned into a mortgage meltdown... They financed homes to people that in reality could not afford them... and the ended up forclosing.... Since you dont make that much... you might fall into that category... Take some mortgage / home buyer coulseling... you can find places that do it for free.... |

I happen to be in the same situation as you. My income is about $30,000. I hate to tell you, but even if you get approved for a loan that large, your house payments will be around $800 a month. So I"m looking now at houses around in the 70's and 80's price range. I live in Iowa. Try looking for something in that range. good luck! |

Some small towns have very good prices on houses. Contact a realtor. They will not charge you for their services. |

Depends on the market. I don't know about the Twin Cities area; I've never lived there. Where I live (south Texas), a $150,000 house is very nice indeed. Starter homes are available for as little as $60,000. And despite what Mr. Barker says, you can afford a home on 25 grand a year -- but probably not 150 G's worth. It all depends on what you can work out with the mortgage company (and possibly on whether or not you can get a co-signer).
If you were ever in the military VA can help. There is also assistance for down payments and closing costs available from HUD and "Fanny Mae." Contact these organizations directly for more info. And be sure that whatever realtor you work with works with these assistance programs -- not everyone does. |

Yes, in Atlanta, texas, places in the south, you can get a lot of home, real nice for under $200,000. Now in california, you'll be lucky to find something small for under $375,000 |
