Is it possible to still get a mortgage even though i am on a debt management plan?
I have been on this plan for about two years and have about 5 years to go, and i would really like to buy my own home instead of renting like i am doing. I have not defaulted on these payments so far and don't know if that makes a difference. Does anyone think it would be possible for me to be accepted for a mortgage with my partner?

Hi, I work in a conveyancing office at a solicitors office and most mainstream lenders have what's called sub-prime mortgages for people who have adverse credit. Examples would be Platform Home Loans, GMAC RFC, even Northern Rock. Your best bet would be to see an independent financial advisor but not one who charges £1000.00 to set up the mortgage for you. Go to an estate agents who also give mortgage advice, I'm sure you could find a lender who could arrange a mortgage for you. Good luck!!

You will need a fully checkable credit history going back six years and if your credit is dodgy before then then you will have a problem getting a mortgage. You will a need a deposit and any debt you have is taken into account. So if you earn 40 thousand a year they will times that by 3 to give you what you could borrow- but if you owe 15 thousand in debts they will take that off the figure you could borrow. Have a look at www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk- i think he has a thing on there to work out your credit score.

Unless you can put down a very large deposit, which you obviously cannot, they will not touch you with a bargepole. and in reality... can you blame them?

Think you'll be struggling to get one of the better known mortgage lenders to help but I wish you luck.

honest girl!
Obviously your on a DMP because you have been struggling to pay your debts, so to even consider taking on a headache of a mortgage beggars belief...

i think you may be able to get a mortgage, but the terms will be alot different than if you had good credit
if you are in a council property speak to them about it, or ask a reputable mortgage company, but be sure of the terms and conditions before you go ahead
good luck
