Landlord

There is no law like that, but your lease might have that clause. We can not read the lease, but if you want to type EXACTLY what it states we can tell you if you are understanding it correctly. |

No... but in some states...the landlord is required to hold the deposit in an interest bearing account and in the 13th month....send you a check for the interest earned. |

It would only be true if it were included in your written lease as one of the terms of the contract. Otherwise, your deposit is held by the landlord until you vacate the premises, and then damages/repairs are calculated and subtracted from your deposit before return to you. Depending on where you live, the landlord may or may not be required to pay some sort of interest on the deposit he holds. Those rules vary from state to state. |

I doubt if you have damages to your apartment that you will have the right to your full deposit. Read your lease and you will know for sure. Any breach of the lease usually causes the loss of your deposit. |

NO...You get your deposit back 30 days after you move out, less any damages or unpaid rent. |
|

No, the length of time you have been there has no bearing. You should get your deposit back if you leave the apartment in good condition, don't break the lease and don't owe any rent. Clean well, repair what you can, take photos, fill out a move-out checklist and keep a copy, do a final walk-through with the landlord. Hopefully you still have a move-in checklist that you can compare it to. |

It depends on your lease agreement. |

No, you get it back - minus the costs of the damage you do - only after you are completely moved-out and turned over the keys. |

|
The purpose of a deposit is to cover damages and unpaid rent. Amount of time there is not so much a factor. It would depend on what your lease agreement is, and to some extent, the amount of trust the Landlord has in you. But even if you have been the best tenant, don't take it personally if the answer is "no" not till you move out. The best of friends part over money so it really doesn't matter how long he has known you. However, you might be entitled to interest when you do move. |
|

Gertie
 |
Does you rental agreement say that? Most places will determine how much of your deposit you get back after you have moved out and they assess the damages to the home. |
