Yes, you can do it but you will have to paint it back to the original color before you move out. |

It really depends on the landlord but most of the time the is yes, it's a violation. Some will let you paint a basic color but never anyhting wild or out of the ordinary. |

if you want to paint dark or weird colors, yeah. if he agrees to let you do this....better get it in writing, describing evry detail.......if its the same or off white, it shouldnt be a problem............. |

Usually there is something in the lease regarding painting/papering. In my experience, either you can ok the color choice with the landpeople ahead of time & be ok or usually they ask that you repaint it to its original color when you leave. Unless you want some crazy color or style, just talk to your apartmentpeople and they will probably try to work with you. |

read the lease if it says no alteration then yes it would be a violation, and the landlord can charge you to repaint the place when you move out to bring it back to original color |

Yes, it will. You might be able to paint the walls to a colour you like if you clear it with the rental office first, but they may ask you to paint it back to the original colour when you move out. If you don't, they might take your security deposit, since they'll have to paint it back to the original colour themselves. |

My landlord is very cool about stuff like that. No changes to the structure itself with out proper permits and such but small things like painting are ok. If its not spelled out in your lease then you need to ask before doing it. I would hate to do all that and then have him say change it back! |

Yes, it's a violation. Absolutely do not paint it without getting written consent from your Landlord first. |

The only comment I will add to this is if you paint a dark color like Black or something hard to cover it will probably affect your deposit because it is so hard to bring the color back to neutrals. |

just ask your landlord first, it should be ok, as long as you paint it back before you leave, is usually what they say. |
