Not at all. It is there for people that really need it. So if you don't have it and really need it then apply for it. |

Only if you consider low income degrading. It shouldn't be, if you are honest about your income. |

"Section 8" refers to a section of the United States discharge manual
referring to people who have been discharged for reasons of mental
health - either because they are likely to do themselves harm or
someone else.
It is usually used for people who suffer from "shell shock" (post traumatic
stress syndrome) and are no longer considered fit for duty.
War is hell and if you aren't affected by it, I'd worry more.
I suppose Klinger on the old series M*A*S*H was trying to be considered
crazy so he could get a section 8 and get sent back home.
I wouldn't necessarily consider section 8 as degrading. It depends on
the details.
Klinger's idea of getting home was to wear a dress - but he had very
hairy legs. Yes, in this case, I would consider a section 8 degrading ;) |

Yes, it means you can't afford housing. Its because you're too lazy, too stupid, or have a drug problem or something. |

A sec tion 8 in the military is a bad thing, it is a mental discharge. In housing, if you need it go for it!! That is what it is there for |

If you use it because you honestly need help, work every day and are doing the best you can, then no. If you are abusing the system, then yes. |

Not if you need it. |

I am on section 8 and I don't think that it's degrading. Everyone doesn't make the same amount of money and can't afford to live in the same kind of housing. |

Klinger on M.A.S.H. was always looking for a Section 8 release out of the military.(In those days it meant you were psychologically unfit for service. That's why he wore all those women's clothes as in those days cross dressing was one of those aberent behaviors that could get you out. Smile :) |

Only to those who are ripping of the system.....not to people that need a little help and work or are disabled |

No it's not. Some people are really down on their luck and need it. Mothers with children need it. Elderly people need it. Handicapped people need it. Injured Vets need it. There are real legit reasons why people need it but it's when it's misused that it becomes degrading. Some people will always buck the system and live off Section 8 when they know they shouldn't just because they don't want to work and think the state should give them a handout. |
