How can I qualify for a government grant to buy a house, if I am a born American, have a job that pays less then 30,000, and married to someone who makes less then 30,000. His credit is crap, so I will not be using him on the application for a loan, would I have to use him for a gov loan?
From person experience what is the best place to get a loan, and apply for Grant? |

Well first off the 8k gov thing is done with, they wont be extending it either as it was not successful in its goal, 80% of the money they gave away was fraud, and it cost them something like 36k to give away 8k b/c how inefficent the gov is.
How's your credit, you'll need 620, maybe get by with 580 but most likely need at least 620. Keep in mind if the bf of hubby has crap credit and wont be on the loan you cant use his income to qualify for the loan either.
Start getting ready. Dont close old accounts, dont open new acounts. Pay all credit lines below 50% of limit. Pull a credit report and start disputing innaccurate things. Also, use loanhomeonline.com/findamortgage. I used them to find my laon I make about the same as you 630 credit score and just bought a place for 100k. |

The only people that can still get the $8000 tax credit are active duty military. They can still buy a home using it for an extra year.
You are best served to get a loan thru a local lender- one that you could walk up to there office if needed. Get recommendations for family and friends that have recently got loans. They all get their money from the same sources and so are very competitive in rates depending on your credit.
Any grant or other special program would be a local or state program. A good local lender and a good local real estate agent would know about these. |

The credit is over, unless you were under a binding contract for a purchase by 4/30 and close by 6/30, so no it isn't still in effect.
And there aren't government grants for you to buy a house. If your credit is good, you might qualify for a mortgage, but for maybe $70,000. |

(2) Try your bank. If there are ANY local grants available, they and your realtor will know. Really nothing federal available.
(3) Ignore any offer made here online; crooks abound. |

Welcome back to life. The 8k tax credit expired 4/30/2010 and no new one being offered.
There are NO grants to buy a home. If you can't save up for the down payment and closing costs then you cannot afford a home. |
