I don't think you should have to pay this. However, in order to be able to refuse him you need to be sure of your facts. I would either get a free 30 minute consultation with an appropriate solicitor. Many solicitor's offer this service. You could also go to the Citizens' Advice Bureau, they will also be able to give you the facts. If you have the facts and are able to present them to your landlord, then he will not have a leg to stand on. Good luck. |

Absolutely not - this is his expense, not yours. Tell him you will pay it into his mortgage account, thus by passing this illegal fee. |

if it's paid by direct debit then there should be no charge,i think he's trying to get more money out of you. |

No thats his business not urs. When u signed up with the landlord your rent is as it is now. U dont have to pay the fee for HIS account tell him you will pay it cash to him - let him sort it out as long as he gets the right amount of rent thats all that matters - he cant make u pay the fee |

Don't take this sitting down. Stand up for your rights and fight.
You are talking about a lot of money. Point this out to your landlord and hopefully he is a reasonable person. Send a letter to him stating your case.
Good luck. |

He should as well ask you to pay for his tranportation to the bank to transfer his money.
Its a no brainer |

In spite what people have written above (which is sound advice) - to be honest, it is academic the reasons he is increasing your the amount you pay as he is allowed, as your landlord, to up your rent.
The terms under which your rent can be increased will be in your contract, and it sounds like he is ignoring this as it typically requires written warning, and then a period of 1 - 3 months before taking effect.
As people say though, it sounds like he is trying it on. I would call his bluff. Challenge the legitimacy of the claim, if he insists its valid then say if he is genuinely going to increase the rent, do so under the terms of your existing agreement, and you will have to review his prices against whats available in the area. For a measley £35 a month I doubt he would risk having it vacant for a few months. |

Surely you can pay the rent direct into his mortgage account. If he has originally asked you to pay into another account and then he has to transfer it on, then that is up to him and if any charges are incurred they are his responsibility. HIS banking arrangements are not your problem - and certainly should not affect your finances. This is his responsibility - he's just after more money from you. Sounds like a dodgy landlord. |
