Is there a difference between a condominium and an aprtment?

You rent an apartment for a year or two at a time. After you move out you have nothing to show for it. But they're also easier to get into and out of the agreement to live in it (the lease).

A condominium is financed the same way as a house. You get a mortgage and pay it until its paid off. They can be attatched like most apartments (though usually more space in them) or they can be detatched like a house. But you dont own the land that its on so you have to keep paying condo fees (100 to 300 a month around here) as long as you live there. They limit the stuff you can do to it, but they also do all the outside work (mowing, snow shoveling, upkeep on the home) for you.

Generally speaking a Condominium (Condo) is property that you buy. They often look like apartments but can also be in the style of a Duplex or other styles. You will need a down payment and a loan unless you are able to buy outright. Often the owners belong to a Condo Association for their property where decisions are made about the care of the properties. Rules for just about any aspect of life in the condo are made by the association. There are dues for up keep of the shared aspects of the property such as the roof or the elevator or a parking lot. Your condo builds equity--hopefully and when you wish to sell it you will get the money back.
In an apartment you pay rent and get nothing back for your investment. Hope this is helpful. You definitely will need good people skills to work with your co-owners, but then good people skills are necessary to live just about anywhere.

Condominium complexes are governed by state laws. Your homeowners association in conjunction with a management company will maintain those laws, & if you're an owner, not a renter, you can participate in problems/situations that impact the "community" of your complex. All I know about apartments is from the past, where negotiations were made between landlord & tenant, altho I believe some apartment complexes have "managers."

You purchase a condo whereas you only rent an apartment. In a conco complex you pay a fee to live there usuallly around 250 per year the cost varies by community and city.

Yes - In a condo, you actually own it. An apartment is merely leased from the landlord, so you have no equity in it.

staceyandlerone@verizon.net
You often are required to purchase a condominium, in many cities, you apply and a board reviews your application before you can purchase the property. Apartments are usually for rent or lease and do not have as many stricy guidlines for rental as a purchase of a condo. This does not always hold true in large cities, such as NY, LA, etc.

Yes, with a condo, you own the air space inside the walls. You do not own an apartment, you rent it.

This site has many reports that will most likely answer most of your questions -- www.paynotaxesforlife.com

Yes - you own a condo and it is yours - you can save alot of money and the money you pay is not going to waste like it is when you rent an apartment
