Is there a legal way of breaking my lease when I no longer feel safe in my apartment due to multiple break-ins?
I have lived in my apartment for almost two years now. In the past 8 months my apartment has been broken into three times. Most recently there were two break-ins in a matter of 52 hours. The burglars broke our door down twice before we even got it fixed the first time. The second time they broke in my roommate was actually home and had to run out the front door to keep himself from harm. It is obvious that we are no longer safe living in this apartment and have since vacated the premises. We attempted to reason with our real estate company and even offered that they keep our security deposit to fix damages as we felt bad that we were unable to stay in the house longer to make any repairs. I guess I'm just wondering if there is some sort of loophole to where we won't be punished for leaving a place where we feel like we are in danger. In my heart I feel like we can't be forced to finish out a lease in a home that we no longer feel safe in. We also only had 3 months left and had already paid last months rent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, that's a "glass is half-empty" kind of attitude. Just gonna give up, huh?
Consider this: free meat. Think about it.

if i were you ide keep the house buy a shotgun and wait for them... that will stop your burglary problem right :D

You moved into a bad neighborhood with delusions of invulnerability. How is that the landlord's problem?
Tigg
Of course you can be forced. You will be sued in court for the remainder of the lease plus interest and court costs. It is not the landlord's problem.

NO. Landlords are not responsible for crime in the area. You cannot break a lease because of break ins. I know it does not seem fair but it is legal.
You can leave but the would have every legal right to hold you to what ever lease break fees are stated in your lease. If none is stated then they can charge you rent through the end of the lease or until it is re-rented.
