Jresey Boy's answer is absolutely correct. A bad landlord experience doesn't necessarily preclude someone from being a potential tenant. Most landlords however do know when they are being scammed by someone pretending to be a landlord.
Be very upfront with your potential landlord and offer good character references as well as previous landlord references (not the one you had a problem with).
If I am surprised by something that wasn't listed on an application when I run a tenant/credit check, I automatically rule that person out on the premise that if you are dishonest right off the bat, it won't be a good fit.
Good Luck |

sure use a friend as an old lanlord they could give you good references and no one would ever know the difference!!! |

Yes.
Many Landlords run credit history on prospective tenants anyway so you need to be upfront about your credit history and old landlord and tell your side of the story with an explanation on what you have done to correct things.
A person will respect you more being upfront on this and you will have a better shot at an apartment. If this doesn't work, the Landlord may request a co-signer on the lease that would also be responsible under the lease terms. |

A cosigner will work. Someone with good credit. |

Sure, there are ways, but most of them are illegal (not reporting the correct information) or difficult (putting a large deposit down as security between you and the new landlord). |

Some places may not care, especially if it's been awhile and you haven't had any other problems. But you might want to buy a house or something. lt is often a good idea to get financial problems settled if you can. |

a lot of places do not run credit checks. I have lived in some really nice places and to date I have never been asked for references or to sign for a credit check, however, i am from a small town and i know in larger towns it is more common, i would keep looking |

Yes, most landlords will require a larger than usual deposit. I would recommend you contact a local apartment finder company like realty choices usa or something. They do not cost you anything & they can help you find apartment or rental place & help you find one that will accept your credit (as there are some out there).
Good Luck! |

Depends on where you are renting but some places dont run your credit. The last 2 apartments i have lived in didnt run my credit. Find somewhere that doesnt. |

You mean just renting? Just get one of your professional sounding friends to pretend he was your landlord and obviously get him to say wonderful things about you! Scam baby, scam. |
