hopes2graduate | Is there anything I can do to shut my neighbors dog up besides antifreeze??? |
I just bought a house and my neighbor keeps his dog right next to my house. They have a small yard so it really has no other place to go. They care about there dog I watch them play with it. It barks ALWAYS. LOUD. REALLY LOUD. Im trying to sell the house and everyone comments. It echoes through the house. I talked to them about it and they just take it in for 5 minutes and then let it back out. No one will buy the house from me like this. Is there a noise complaint I can make? I bought it treats and threw them to him o ver the fence to try and chill it out but no luck. Im gonna kill the neighbors and the dog if I dont get some type of resolution soon. |

A coworker had a yappy dog. Her new neighbors asked her to do something about the it. She didn't. They threw chicken bones in the yard and killed the dog. |

Years ago the same thing happened to us. Here is what I did.. I took my portable tape recorder, set it in my yard, and just let it tape all night. I talked to my town prosecuter, and told him the problem, because our neighbors kept denying the dog barked all night. When I played the tape for him, he set up a meeting between us, and then asked them again, if there dog barked all night, and they said NO again. Then he turned on the tape I gave him, and they said, well, we didn't know it, because they worked all night. (and left the dog out). After that they had to bring the dog in every night. They moved shortly after that. I hope I didn't blabber on to muck..lol. but That's what I did to solve the problem..Good Luck.. |

Yes, every town has noise ordinances. Call the local police and complain. After you complain enough they will eventually start issuing tickets/fines |

Very Simple, call the animal control department in your area and lodge a complaint. On the first complaint they will go to the neighbors house and talk with them to try and clear it up. Of coarse it won't. The second will get a warning ticket. And on the third is when the fines will start, and they aren't cheap. It will be a good idea to go over there one last time and tell them of your intentions to call animal control. And when that doesn't work and it won't, make the call. It will take about 2 weeks of messing with this for the neighbor to get the message and train the dog or buy a mussel. I have dealt with this so many times when my clients move into their new house. Good Luck, BARK BARK BARK |

There is a device that will emit a sound only a dog can hear each time it barks. It has a range of at least 30 feet, so you could put it on your property. I saw it advertised in the catalogs that are on airplanes. Go to www.southwest.com and see if the catalog is there. |

Do you know what 99% of the problems with dogs are? The people who own them!!
From the dogs point of view, it's confined and unable to move about. It's stressed and frustrated. And that's causing the dog to bark.
From the human standpoint, the barking is annoying, and preventable.
If you've made attempts to contact your neighbor and voice your complaint with no satisfaction, then I'm afraid it's time to take other measures.
Just as it is not permitted for people to become unruly, neither is it for animals. And in an urban setting, the owner of the animal is responsible for it's actions. I think the following steps can be taken...
1. Call your local animal control officers and see what they can advise you. Many cities and towns have animal ordinances. If your neighbor is violating those ordinances, then he/she can be fined if corrective measures are not taken to curb their animals behavior. Try this step first.
2. If no results come from animal control, then make a non-emergency call to your local law enforcement. Have them come out to talk to your neighbor. This is the most sure fire way to get the problem resolved as far as the dog is concerned, but it will surely cause some animosity between you and your neighbor. If you're moving, then I really don't see where this would affect you much.
I hope this matter gets peacefully resolved. |

I'd call your City Hall and see what the rules are for handling this.
Please don't hurt the dog, the problem is with the pig-headed owner. The dog is only doing what he knows. Thanks! |

Please don't complicate your life threatening to kill the pet; you'll only get legal _problems_ that way.
Have you called the local police to find out about barking dog laws? Ask how to serve a Cease and Desist Order on your neighbor. Maybe there are severe $$$ penalties for ignoring local laws.
If you get no satisfaction from police, get a free consultation with a local lawyer and see what he suggests. I'm sure there's something short of killing the pet. The Humane Society will be climbing all over you and I hear that they're relentless in chasing down offenders.
Be creative, but be kind - No antifreeze or bullets or otherwise.
There are anti-bark collars I believe. It might be a solution. Ask a local vet.
Put an ad in the real estate section offering your home for sale to deaf people and sweeten the pot a little. Maybe you'll get a buyer, who knows; it's a crazy thought, but maybe . . .
Be creative, but be kind and good luck with the house sale.
Earplugs in the meantime. |

Excessive barking is noise pollution, call the Police and/or see a para-legal. They can advise you for minimal cost without the expense a lawyer would charge.Look in the yellow pages for your town or city. |
