I was buying my first car, and i looked on craigslist because i was curious. I ended up finding a 2001 punch buggy, it was perfect! low mileage sunroof no scratches, and it was being sold cheap because the girl, 'Kaitllin Sullivan', which I assume is a fake name, was being sent back to iraq with her unit. it was for sale for $2800. She had an ebay protection plan on it that was supposed to protect me, her, the car, and all the money. She had me Wire money to her using Western Union. I never received the car or an email. Nothing. I worked very hard, put in all the hours i could, and gave every penny i had to this lady. I ma Absolutely heat broken, and i get my license in two weeks and i have nothing to drive. I already submitted every bit of info to IC3 that i had. Should i contact local new stations, call a lawyer? What, if anything could i do? :(

yes i called the police in Fort Myers FL which is hwre i sent the more and they just wanted me to submit all the info into IC3.com..an orginization for internet crime, they didn't help nad were barely willing to even talk! |

Never WIRE money!
Listing for a car that sounds too good to be true, very cheap, or out of the state & country are usually scams. Craigslist won't help you much with scam, so you are really out of luck.
Next time you want to buy a car on craigslist, be sure the seller is local. As for appointment to see and inspect the car. Then tell the seller that you want the title and keys same day as payment. |

Unfortunately you ignored the #1 disclosure found on Craigslist: Never wire money! Since you have photos, if the license plate is visible you may be able to track down the owner. Also, have you contacted Craigslist? When an ad is submitted the advertiser must submit their email address and while you don't see it on the screen Cariglist has it. This is an internet scam and that's probably why FMPD wasn't much help. However I believe the Lee County Sheriff's Department does have an internet crimes unit. Call 239 477 1000.
