Is there anyway i can get a council house?
Hi,

im 31, am british and have been paying tax all my life. I have no savings and have around £300 disposable income every month. It will take me about 10 years to save a deposit and even then if i borrow 4 times salary i couldnt even get a place to live as all expensive here in south.

i want to live away from parents, so can i get my own place from the council?

Cautious Norm.
Not a chance.

If you're a British white male - no chance mate.

yeah you can ..check out your local council who will take your details and give you a login number...this may take a few weeks but once you get it you can logon and see what properties are available in the area you want...try and get ones that have the right to buy after a few years......as you are working there shouldn't be a problem.....don't know where in the uk you are but in southeast london it is possible

No. You do not have dependants and are not strictly homeless as you have a roof over your head. People who have families also pay tax, it doesn't entitle you to a council house. Wait for the housing market to crash (coming soon to a place near you), and then rent or buy when the market is more sensible.

If you have so little disposable income, you must be paying your parents a lot of money.. Y'sure you couldn't be part of a house share? Ask around, there may be someone who is looking for someone else to share the cost of buying a house. A third of a house is better than nothing.

Probably not - they all seem to be reserved for pregnant 16 year olds I'm afraid! Have you thought of moving into a shared house in order to get away from the parents?

The only way you will get towards the Council Waiting list is you are 14, with 3 kids and number 4 on the way.

I have been on the Council Waiting List for over 10 years now, and as I live, sleep and eat in my parents spare room I am NOT considered to be a priority. 90% of my monthly salary goes on travel, paying bills, clothes (necessitys only) and 'rent' to my parents. I am also in my 30's and was born here - as were my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents etc etc etc.

Ed
You can but you may have a long wait. Council houses are dwindling as tenants buy, and none get built.

It took me 5 years.

All councils have a priority system, and many also now operate a "bidding" system. Eg the local council prints 2 lists of empty properties every week. One list is based on need, one on length of waiting time. You must ask for the house you want. From the needs based list, the person in the highest priority band, and satisfying any demands (eg family only, disabled) gets the house. From the time list, whoever asks for the house, the one who has waited longest will get it, the priority band is ignored.

You could claim homeless, but it won't help you. Single man, sane, good health, housed = no priority (as I was told when I tried it)

To anyone who thinks pregnancy helps - my gf became pregnant after I had been on the list for 3 years. We still were not housed after the child was born.

I have british white male friends that have gained council housing (no kids) it will depend on the area you are in, and the level of demand. If your in or around london forget it, the houses go to immigrants with lots of kids. In some areas of the country if you are over 30 you could well get housed in a 1 bed flat or house, it may take a while on the housing list, or for you to go to them as a 'homeless person' (be creative).

I think its highly unlikely, they operate on a points system and the more points you have, if you are on the housing list then the higher up you go. Though this theory sometimes goes out of the window as i have seen if the person is from a foreign country and or a single pregnant female.

Ford â„¢ Pre2001 Models Questions
First off, why do you need a council house,, and secondly why would you want a council house?

.Deliqent children running riot everywhere, stealing everything because their familys are no better and cant keep control of anything?

Low-life, thats all I can say. I know this hasent answered your question, im just making a point.

Why let yourself stoop to that level, come-on, your better than that?

Get a different job that pays better if possible, otherwise a may I suggest a Loan?

If you are lucky you may get on a waiting list, but you will have to wait for ever as we have to look after all the refuges, immigrants, their families, You will be about 50 by the time they get round to you.
