He's Real
Is this true?
My friend says she can make 100k and upwards being a realtor in the Southeast U.S.

Is this true, or is she mistaken? I just find it hard to believe that a two week course can produce that amount of money.

Not right away, and probably not for awhile. It takes years to build a regular client base and reputation. Plus you have to have a certain personality, not everybody is cut out for that job. You have to have a certain amount of aggression to go after that sale, but of course you can't let the buyers know you are being aggressive, instead you have to have them convinced that you are their best friend.

Absolutely. It takes a very driven individual with a "people person" type personality - but it is definitely possible. Keep in mind however, that the real-estate trend fluctuates from year to year, so while some years may produce a six figure salary others may not.

After time, you need contacts and experience.

YES and much more! However, it takes time and hard work. After 3 years, you should be making 75-125+. After 5 years, you should be making 225+

But as with every job, it's how hard you work.

It is possible, anything is possible. But I tend to agree with you, if it sounds too too good to be true like they say it probably is.

Being a realtor is NOT the same thing as being a real estate agent. A realtor runs a real estate sales company while a real estate agent is a salesperson. A reasl estate agent can make that much on about $5,700,000 in sales or less if the rates are the same there as here in N.Y. If you sell a property listed by someone else, you receive 1.75% of the price and the realtor for whom you work also receives 1.75% of the price. The agent who listed the property and his or her employer also each receive 1.75% for a total commission of 7%. If you sell and list, you get 3.5%. The realtor always gets as much as the agent.

First, a two week course does not produce that kind of money. What she does with the info, what contacts she makes, what the market is like in her area, what kind of leads she gets...all of those things are what can produce that kind of money.
Yes, it can happen, but it can take time, especially in today's market. There are so many houses on the market in SW Florida right now and not too many people buying. A lot of people are having to reduce their asking prices which makes for a lower commission for realtors, agents, etc. But there are a lot of ways around that too. You have to really know what you are doing.

Short answer....she's not mistaken.
